I love good sushi. I think the negative experience by many people is due to the fact that they have only ever been exposed to poor quality sushi or what that masquerades as sushi. Decent authentic Japanese restaurants overseas tend to be high-end & expensive.

The same applies to most ethnic foods in foreign restaurants eg Chinese food which have been mangled beyond recognition or adapted (usually means downgraded) to 'suit' local expectations . Other than saving up for a special treat in an authentic restaurant, another way is to befriend someone from the local migrant / foreign community who knows how to prepare the traditional food in question (free meal, yeah!) and/or knows which restaurants are the truly genuine article.

Good sushi is absolutely fresh, eaten with minimal seasonings. Pre-packed sushi should be eaten asap and only buy from shops with a high volume turnover rate. If you have eaten only 'slimy' fish, you are really getting a raw deal. There are also loads of other ingredients/toppings besides raw or smoked seafood. The freshness & flavour should just burst & fill your mouth, sensational!

People who put down sushi due to only having bad experiences or hearing other negative comments are simply doing themselves a disservice. Just like those people who travel half way around the world only to seek out the nearest McDonalds. Do yourself a favour, don't torture your stomach by accepting inferior stuff.

Adore it. Sometimes I'll treat myself to a night out for sushi, but that's rare as the cost (and the problems of finding a dining partner that doesn't view it as fish-bait) can be difficult to manage on a teacher's salary.

Most often I bring home take-out from a local high-end grocery store or make it at home. Being Korean, I'm used to helping my mom make kimbap, so it was just a matter or interjecting a step or two to get some really great california rolls made in a hurry.

Sushi? i don't see why there are maximum of eating places charging an arm and a leg for 3 bites of that favourite crap. they have been promoting that for years at our community bait save.

there's no mystery to sushi, other than the fact that it's the favorite food of New York supermodels due to low calorie counts.

If you like rice and seafood, you'll love it. With a true sushi master, it can be like heaven, but sushi depends highly on the quality of fish.

I love well-made sushi from higher end places- it's healthy, very delicate and very delicious. Unfortunately, it's very expensive too.
The stuff they call sushi in Chinese buffets is vile- the fact that people have sneezed on it makes it even more disgusting than the fact that it's been sitting uncovered for hours and people have been touching it.

I love GOOD sushi, sushi that they serve at grocery stores is okay if you're craving it and there's no other option. there is an authentic japanese restaurant here in cincinnati that makes real authentic sushi and it's freaking amazing. i can't eat a lot of it though because it makes me nauseous, just doesn't sit too well with my stomach.

I used to be afraid of sushi. Now, I love it! My favorite it an inside out roll with salmon and avocado. I love a little wasabi in my soy sauce.

I love the atmosphere of a Japanese restaurant. They are so peaceful. There are so many cooked options on my Japanese menus, that people shouldn't shy away from the experience of Japanese dining! Terryaki is also a favorite of mine!

I really only like sashimi... fresh caught, sliced and eaten.

I've avoided sushi resturants the last 10 years since it became "trendy". I used to eat it every Friday night when I was stationed at NAS Atsugi Japan.
