Yes, some of it is cooked. Go with your favorite fish. I love shrimp...so I love shrimp sushi. I cant recommend one to try as the best one because it depends on your preference. Its really good though.

Yes, there is such thing as cooked sushi.
Unagi is broiled eel which is my favorite.
Also many of the newer rolls use tempura as a filler.

However, I thought Benihanas was primarily a tepannaki place (with no sushi) that basically puts on a show cooking stir-fry for their guest.

Sushi must be a new addition to capitalize on the sushi craze?

Either way... Just assume it's all good, drink lots of sake and have fun!

No, there's nothing like cooked sushi. But the restaurant might well do some cooked dishes - many sushi places do. Otherwise, go for a selection of fish and vegetarian sushi. If you don't like the fishy ones (though you probably will), the veggie ones may be more to your liking.

Cooked sushi usually refers to a combination of rice and cooked fish or vegetables, like salmon skin sushi (crispy and yummy) eel sushi (savory) or tamago (egg and rice--a bit sweet for me).

Benihana is not too bad for your first foray, but they are a chain restaurant. This means you don't have to fear about whether things are edible, but they won't be authentic. But that's still fine for a first time:)

Cooked sushi is the only kind I'll eat. Try:

~Shrimp Tempura Roll (fried shrimp)
~California Roll (king crab, cream cheese, avocado)
~Vegetable Roll (usually carrot & cucumber)

Why go to a sushi place and order cooked food? That's like going Chinese and ordering a steak. Look, try a sampler platter of sushi. They will have charts and or you can keep a menu to read about what kind you're trying. You will probably love it. If not, then you pay your bill and head to In-n-Out Burgers and no one loses.
