about sugar in urine..its the same in type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the reason is when you have a large amounts of glucose you will have a HYPERGLYCEMIA or blood glucose elevation... So a lot of glucose will present in ur blood and the only way that our bodies reduce this glucose from the blood is to store it in our tissues by INSULIN.
so if you have no INSULIN SECRETION (( type 1 )) or there is insulin secreted but ur body CANT USE IT (( type 2 ))
your body will try to eliminate that excess amount of sugar..BUT HOW????
when the glucose level is too high in your blood(( more than normal ranges )) and cant be stored in your tissues...our KIDNEYS will eliminate it out with urinee in order to normalize the blood glucose level.
SO...when glucose level is high it will be excreted out with urin.
NOTE :
Diabetes type 1>>> they receive INSULIN as a therapy to control blood glucose because those ppl DONT SECRETE INSULIN FROM PANCREAS at all.
Diabetes type 2 >>> DONT take INSULIN because their body already secrete INSULIN BUT the problem CANT USE IT and STORE IT IN TISSUES.....
so how to work it out?????
patients with diabetes type 2 receive a drugs called
OHA>>> Oral Hypoglycemic Agents..for example Metformin,Glimepiride,Rosiglitazone,Gliclazide,Pioglitazone and many other OHA's choosen according to each patient's conditions.
these agent used to force their body by many mechanisms to STORE the already secreted insulin in tissues and be able to get use of it when ever needed.
that's all

For Type 1 (juvenile), it is true. Type 1 diabetics do not produce insulin.
For Type 2 (adult onset), it depends. If diet, exercise and medications other than insulin are not controlling blood sugar levels, then sugar would be excreted in their urine if they don't use insulin.

It is true for those with type 1. If I don't take my insulin injection there will be too much sugar in my whole body and that will show up on a blood or urine test.

Yes. Believe it or not, before the days of modern medicine, in order to diagnose diabetes, doctors would taste a patient's urine to see if it was sweet.
