No. You can still eat sweets, french fries and many other foods with low nutritional value.

A lot of the other posters are right. I've met plenty of overweight vegetarians, or vegetarians with health issues.
I think that one of the most healthy things people could do isn't necessarily giving up meat but preparing food at home - you can control to some extent where your food comes from, how much sodium and fat goes into it, etc.
That being said, in our fast-food world, everyone wants meals on the go. Therefore, collectively as a society we are becoming further and further unhealthy. Vegetarians can be just as guilty of this as omnivoures. For instance, they might go through drive-throughs and get vegetable fried rice (hold the eggs), french fries, salads with artery-clogging dressings... the list goes on and on.
Though I made the personal choice not to eat meat, I do think that a big reason why I've been feeling and looking a lot better is because I started to make most of my meals at home. Not only is it a lot easier on my wallet, it's a lot easier on my waistline as well.

No. There are plenty of overweight and unhealthy veg*ns. Proper weight and BMI come from getting the right amount of calories. There are calories in pretty much all food, meat or not. "Health" is a more abstract term, but it comes from getting a good balance of all the nutrients your body needs. Again, that can come from all sources.
It all comes down to personal habits and discipline. If you eat garbage (fast food, processed junk, fatty foods), you will be unhealthy and if you don't, you won't.
That being said, if you took someone's regular eating habits and simply replaced meat with tofu or seitan, eggs with egg replacers and milk with soymilk (but kept everything else the same), that person would have much lower cholesterol, ingest far less saturated fat, and have statistically lower risk of diabetes and colon cancer.

OH NO! There are way too many Junk Food Veggies out here..they think a box of Mac & Cheese is it or French fries etc.
This why you will see me in so many answers saying SELF EDUCATE, study, find out What is needed to be HEALTHY & THRIVE.
I see above me so many saying you have to have meat, you need more protien etc. NOT TRUE, there are plenty of Protien Sources in a plant based diet. They have fallen to the Protien Myth of animal flesh being the only "complete" source of protien..scary but that is what 50+ years of a great PR machine will get you. Here's a super article by Dr. John McDougall explaining it far better than I can.

No:
You could still eat a multitude of horrible foods while you are a vegetarian. Artery clogging fats still exist in French Fries, Jalapeno Poppers, Fried Cauliflower, and Cheese Drenched Quesadillas.

Hell no, there no health benefit if your going to deep fry your vegetables very time you eat them.
That you need is common sense, eating a leg of pork very meal is going to be bad for you just as much as deep frying every veg*n thing you eat..
Its about having a balanced diet and nothing else.

anyone who knows better, knows that your diet doesn't just automatically become healthy just due to the fact that you eliminate meat from your diet. i learned that lesson in the 7th grade, when this chick i knew became vegetarian but all she ate was junk food, like chips, fries, and bean burritos from taco hell.
of course, there are some people on here that act like it does...

No, of course not.
You could eat nothing but potato chips and be vegetarian. That wouldn't be very healthy, now would it?
