If you are in doubt, I think it is advisable you see a cardiologist and get a clean bill, OK.

I am 14 yrs old, and I had this problem a couple of months ago.

If you are feeling a quick sharp pain in your heart and upper chest, you most likely have a stitch. A stitch is sharp pain in upper part of abdomen which could possibly be made worse by deep breathing. This is probably to due to your active sports participation. A stitch is common in most athletes who do not exercise properly before workouts or eat too much before.

There is no scientific proof about what causes a stitch, but here's a couple of theories:
During exercise, our blood moves away from the diaphragm to the limbs. The diaphragm is the muscle that separates the stomach and abdomen from the heart and lungs. It's one of the main muscles involved in breathing. Most scientists believe the pain is caused by a reduction in blood supply to the diaphragm, causing it to cramp.

Second Theory:
The stitch is caused by fluids which the body finds hard to digest. This causes the gut to "tug" on the ligaments connecting it to the diaphragm.

I had the same problem as you. Whenever I laid down in bed at night, I sometimes would feel the pain. The pain would become worse If I would lie down on my left side, or if I would breath heavily. I went to the doctor ASAP, and he predicted that it was the common stitch. he didn't give me any medications, he told me that the stitch is a common thing, especially in growing teenagers, and it will eventually go away. It is not threatening to your health.

if you find that the pain is increased when you breath deeply, just exhale all the air out of your lungs, and the pain should go away soon.

you seem like a healthy kid, so I believe that there is nothing for you to worry about.

Hope this helps, and I hope you feel better. Happy holidays!

I'm thirteen and i did not face your problem exactly. But i never sleep on my left side, because i will not be able to breathe and my heart will race. i advice you sleep on your right side, your muscles could relax themselves more easily, you don't need to press your heart against your body, it's no good. So,..... hope you solve your problem quickly and if you still can't cure it, go to a specialist and make a check-up.

You should be fine. Chances are that your muscles are stressed.
