My friend used to be a vegan but her parents and doctor are forcing her to eat meat now. She told me that her stomach was eating itself from not enough protein..and she said that it's ulcers.

Is that possible? I thought that ulcers was caused from a bacteria. I've been a lacto vegetarian for almost a year (but i educated myself about it and make sure to get enough of everything) and I haven't been effected by anything like that.

Thanks for your help!

thank you. that makes more sense. i bet her doctor diagnosed her with ulcers and told her her stomach was eating itself, and it was her parents who didn't want her vegan who told her it was from lack of protein!

No, her stomach is not eating itself because of a lack of protein, technically. But the fact that she is probably eating more acidic foods (tomatoes, many fruits + veggies) is probably aggravating her ulcers. Base foods, such as cheese, yogurt and milk can soothe an acidic stomach. While her veganism is not the cause of her ulcers, it can make her experience of them more painful.

I never heard of anything like that. My wife is a dietitian in a hospital and I review medical record all the time as part of my job.

I think the parents probably made that up about her needing protein. My mom said I would be anemic and my muscles would shrink away. She was a nurse but she sure didn't know about that. She finally admitted she was wrong years later.

Stomach ulcers can be caused by certain bacteria (Helicobacer Pylori), but there are other causes. Being a vegan or vegetarian is not one of them, though.

I don't know what causes ulcers, but my siblings and I have been vegan since conception and have never even had a cold.

It's so sad that her parents and DOCTOR are forcing her to consume animal products, when any educated person knows that people's consumption of animal products is what has caused our current health crisis in the first place.

You are right Bacteria cause Ulcers.
Something else is going on here??? This sounds very "fishy" to me. Is it possible her family & doctor are in collusion to stop her Veganism?
There are millons even billions of Veggies & Vegans in this world IF this was a common problem we would know about it. Not that I do not belevie there are exceptions & new info coming out of health all the time.

Protein maintenance the physique and creates new cells to interchange ones that clearly (or unnaturally) die off. As such, that's truthfully serious for existence. in case you do not ingest sufficient protein, your physique starts off to devour its own muscle and different protein components to feed itself. That suggested, there is not any clarification why you won't be able to get sufficient protein as a vegetarian. Meat isn't the only nutrition with protein. Proteins are strings of amino acids. Your physique can produce a lot of those with the help of itself, yet 8 of them (the so-called "mandatory" amino acids) could be ate up. Protein chains that incorporate all of those 8 amino acids are regularly occurring as finished proteins. Animal products are finished proteins. yet, so are vegetable-based soy and quinoa. Plant be counted does incorporate all 8 of those mandatory amino acids, in basic terms not in many cases in one nutrition, that's why it somewhat is significant to devour considered one of those meals to be sure which you get all 8 mandatory amino acids. Combining meals with different ones of the 8 will furnish the foodstuff you desire (occasion rice and beans at the same time). Meat isn't needed for a healthful existence. paying interest to what you devour is.

I don't think that's possible. If she's eating right then she should be getting enough protein in her diet. I don't think that a lack of protein even causes ulcers. Too many acidic foods cause ulcers, along with stress, anxiety, bulimia, anorexia.

LOL! The only way that your friend would not get enough protein is if she was anorexic, bulimic, had some other eating disorder or if she ate nothing but highly processed junk food.
