Depends on the test. Call the Lab.

If you can get into the test facility early, 8 am or something like that, quit eating around 8 pm.

I have an ongoing argument with most nurses, but not the phlebotomists (those who draw the blood) about my coffee!! The Phlebotomists say coffee without creamer or sugar is fine as is tea with no sugar or lemon or cream.

Always ask how long the fasting is to be and what you can drink during it. One nurse told me to have absolutely nothing to eat or drink including water before the draw!!

Depends on the test being done, however most can be done with an 8 hr fast. Do drink some water. I'm a type two diabetic and have many fasting blood tests done. Most are eight hour fasting tests.

that depends on what you are being tested for. many blood tests do not require fasting prior. If you were told to fast, it is generally a good idea to fast for twelve hours prior.
However, do drink water, lots of water. It won't affect the tests, and it will make it a great deal easier to draw your blood.

8 to 12 hours - my Doc usually says don't eat past 8:00 PM for an 8:00 AM fasting blood draw. Then run to McDonald's for a Happy Meal.

Don't eat or drink anything after midnight!!! If you're not having your cholesterol checked, then you don't need to fast. If you're not sure how long you need to go without eating/drinking, then call the doctor & find out. If you are told not to eat or drink, after midnight, then don't. You can drink water but that's all.
