I got tested 13 weeks after exposure, after wainting a week, I got my results back which were negative. I am still waiting on Hep C and cyphillus ( but they can tell me that over the phone)

How likely is it that I'm actually positive? The doctor looked at me and said that I could come back in at the 6 months mark just for my own peace of mind, but not necessary.

What should I do?

This is the best recommendation for certain STD's. A recheck in 6 months is advisable. With HIV/AIDS there can be, what they call, " a window time frame". Basically, that means, there is a period of time that a negative test may become positive. It's kind of, allowing a space of time in order for the test to be more accurate. The exposure may not be revealed during this time. All Docs are informed that the test be repeated within 6 months because of this " window time frame". Please, have the recheck. I hope that this helped.

Most people develop detectable antibodies approximately 30 days after infection, although some seroconvert later. The vast majority of people (99%) have detectable antibodies by three months after HIV infection; a six-month window is extremely rare with modern antibody testing.

If you feel comfortable with your test results, as did the doctor - then I would say there is no cause for concern. However, like they said, for your peace of mind you could go back at the six month mark and just retest. I'm sure you will have a negative result then as well.

go back in 6 months. And watch yourself in the meantime. Good luck.

Go back in 6 months. Let the rest of us know if the "fun" was worth the "fun" of waiting for these test results.

Kind of makes you think maybe the bible has our survival in mind when it gives us the do's and don'ts of life. sigh ...............
