Depends on what it is paired with. I tend to associate ketchup with 'western' dishes like french fries and soy sauce with 'eastern' dishes like fried rice. Maybe it's because westerners do not use soy sauce in cooking and easterners do not use ketchup in cooking too.

It's all over for me when I crave soy sauce ... it'll have to be a big-ticket Japanese meal tonight!

Fortunately we have a really good Asian foods store in Anchorage, where I can get authentic frozen Japanese gyoza for cheap ...
