We're having a Chinese food buffet and have hired a palm reader/fortune teller. We'd like to have residents in our building get to know one another. Any ideas for a mixer?

For decorations, hang large paper lanterns and red dragon cut outs. You could also use the Chinese zodiac symbols IE: rooster, dog, pig, rat etc. as decorations. Print out each guest's name in Chinese ( how to do at this site: http://www.chinesenames.org/name-translation/a/index.htm
Make your own Chinese restaurant sign ( somehow using your complex name ) http://atom.smasher.org/chinese/
Do a search for the Chinese zodiac signs for each year. The guests will then find out what sign they are, and the different traits of their sign.
Use paper fans as decorations on the buffet table or offer them as favors. A lucky coin in a red envelope is also given out at the Chinese New Year. You can find more decorative items at the sites listed below. I'll also give you a site for some ice breaker games.

There are also sites to print out fortunes to put in fortune cookies. You can also find recipes to make your own.
Have fun at your party.

My sister did this at a party and it was fun.

Write a bunch of names on slips of paper. Real people, dead or alive, characters from books, movies, TV.

Tape one the name slips to the back of each person. They need to walk around and ask yes/no questions to other guests, one question per other guest, to figure out who they are.

If desired, you can have small prizes for those who figure out who they are. People can keep coming back for more names.
