Or more to the point, why have I, a dedicated omnivore and professional chef, ended up dating so many vegetarians/ vegans? My last two serious relationships (2+ yrs) have been with a vegetarian (but she loved cheese, so we bonded over that) and a strict vegan (she checks labels for whey protien and cassien.) Why? I haven't had meat in my fridge in 5 years!

I don't think it has anything to do with diet. 2 is a small sample size. After you have 18 more girlfriends, prepare a spreadsheet with their dietary information and I can help you with some statistical analyses to determine if there is a correlation.

Most rubber and latex products contain milk proteins. Milk proteins are (obviously) an animal product, which means standard latex condoms ARE unsuitable for a strict vegan. You can get vegan condoms now though, just do a bit of research. If you've been together and faithful for a while, its worth looking into different methods of birth control too.

I have only met vegetarians through a meetup from online. I guess I should move to your location.

At least you will be able to cater your cooking to those who are lactose intolerant if you have no meat in the fridge and dating a strict vegan. I don't like checking labels, instead I stick to veggies and fruit.

Well, veg*an girls are probably more likely to like a guy who hasn't had animal flesh in his fridge in five years. Consider this a way to be a more adventurous chef; after all, you may get a vegan or vegetarian in your restaurant with his/her omnivore family.

Wow, you've dated more vegetarians than I've ever met in my life. Is this a problem for you to date a vegetarian. No one is forcing you to change and personally the only reason I would see to change is if you yourself supported a vegetarian diet. Perhaps you've been feeling as though no one would accept you as a male being vegetarian or maybe you just feel you need to do it to apease your girlfriend. Etiher way you need to think about what's important to you. If you really like this girl and wouldn't mind being a vegetarian to stay with her then by all means go for it. If you'd prefer to eat meat and risk loosing her then don't feel you have to change, find someone more compatible.

just a thought - should this question perhaps be in singles & relationships?

i think that there's something in these girls that you're attracted to, whether or not they share your eating habits. i'm a vegetarian and i seem to date tattooed Texans - they're the people that i'm attracted to. i've also dated a few chefs and i'm just guessing here, but i think that as a chef part of you wants a foodie and vegetarians/vegans tend to be more epicurially adventurous than the average omnivore.

if you haven't had meat in your fridge in 5 years, is it by choice or by circumstance? because if it's by choice, perhaps you're inadvertently making the switch yourself...

my two-cents.

I'm vegan/vegetarian and my hubby is a carnivore but I simply don't eat meat and he doesn't eat veggieburgers and we coexist quite peacefully. Is she asking you not to have meat in the house or are you just assuming she will be offended? Most vegans are logical, rational people who understand that this life choice is not for everyone!

You are just lucky, I guess. Although...if the only thing you can find to bond over is cheese (or any other food), thats sad. You, being the consumate chef that you are, should embrace the ability to showcase your talents by preparing her a fabulous meal that fits her food choices. By the same token, she should respect and support whatever food choices YOU make.

That has to be very frustrating for you, dear. I could not think of anything more frustrating than to have to hide your profession and passion, i.e. being a professional chef.

I would think it would be emotionally constricting for you. There must be something that attracts you to these unyielding and somewhat obsessive women. This might be something to explore with a good therapist.

I do hope you find someone with whom you can live your life to the fullest and sharing with them the wonderful gifts you have as a professional chef.

she doesnt let you eat meat? look, you're accepting the fact that she is vegan, she should accept the fact that ur an omnivore. and there are lost of other things you 2 have in common, i bet, so focus on those.=]
