I was having symptoms of a heart attack, went to have EKG which was fine, labs, echocardiogram with stress test, and chest xray to rule out cardio problems. No problems except for high bp and cholesterol is borderline high. I am a smoker trying to quit. I was put on xanax for anxiety and it helps alot, but I will have to go off of it in a month. Is there anyone who can give me any advice.
Thanks

Your doctor is the only person that should be giving you advice on this matter.

Xanax is a very serious drug.

My mother was prescribed xanax for about 7 years. It was awful! Xanax shouldn't be prescribed to anyone. Last year she became so bad that we had to put her in the hospital. The side effects of xanax are terrible and I never want to see anyone coming off of that horrible drug again. Your mom needs a different doctor because she could have a different mental illness that xanax isn't treating. Kind of like putting a band aid on a broken arm. Do a search about mental illness. There are lots of websites that show the signs and symptoms of different mental illnesses.

I'm glad you will be on Xanax for only one month. It causes a great deal of physical and psychological addiction and dependency.

Xanax will help you to help yourself during this stressful time of stopping smoking.

Allow yourself two weeks to get over the physical withdrawal and then it's simply mind over matter ongoing for the psychological stuff.

It's not easy. I quit cold turkey March 06 and the first couple of months it was really tough. I had crying spells. But I did it and you will too!

I do have occasional cravings but they are short and not real strong.

You can and will do this. It's not easy but it's worth it and take my advise "do it one day at a time" or "do it one hour at a time". Before you know it you will have the majority of it behind you and be smoke free.

Take Care and Good Wishes

Comments by others is basically correct but you need to know that because of it's addictive characteristics, you should not quit this medication cold turkey - it will give you withdrawal symptoms. On your last week, you should take one pill every other day for 3 days, then 1/2 pill every other day and then off. This will decrease the probability of any withdrawal. You may still have some but they should be mild - your body likes that stuff!

I used to have panic attacks quite often I started using breathing techniques to calm myself plus meditation. I also got to the root of my stress, once I acknowledged what was bothering me It seemed to help greatly. I never used drugs to calm myself, try the earthy crunchy approach it helped me.
