How old does someone have to be in order for you to call them senior? Do people being called seniors find the word senior to be offensive?

I am asking this question in the V&V section because I am a vegan.

You can start referring to others as senior when they're about 55, unless you're over 45, in which case you'll want to wait a few years longer, or until you're so old you just don't care anymore.

We should not know if calling people seniors is offensive to them, because we should never say it to their face. Only call people a senior when they're out of earshot (about 15 feet if they have their hearing aids on, or 8 feet if they're switched off). Seniors in high school usually find the term a compliment.

I guess it all depends on which chart you look at...AARP starts their senior list at 50 ( which in no way is it senior )....some at 60...and some at retirement age of 65.

To me senior would not offend me unless someone used it in an offensive way. Like...saying something bad about those old seniors over there. Picture someone yelling to you to greet you ( I'll just use a common name ). Hey Mr. Smith ....the use of Mr was not offensive...but now they yell...Hey mister !!...kind of sounds like the want to fight huh ??

Being a Senior is almost like getting a medal...you have accomplished something that a lot of other people didn't.

I know...I ramble on and talk to much..ha ha ha...oh wait a minute....it's almost Christmas...so change that to Ho Ho Ho.

I'm 50 and I started getting AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) stuff in the mail about a year ago.

Sometimes I get the "senior discount" in restaurants.

I guess it's better than dying young, but sometimes I'm not so sure about that.

Not sure, but the questions stop when they reach 75. May as well give in and accept 'senior'.
Insurance companies seem to regard 75 as some sort of landmark.

It's whatever age they can start getting discounts! You know old folks and their $$$! I don't think they mind that part of being a senior.

I would say 60 plus. I am 62 and no I don't find it offensive. I find it offensive that younger people don't seem to value our opinions and just ignore the knowledge we have built up over the years.
