First I would lop off the bottom layer of the Food Pyramid and ban those foods forever from school lunch menus.
Next I would teach that grains and cereals are the culprits in causing the bod to gain fat deposits.
It isn't the fried foods nor the fatty foods that cause fat people!! It is the huge french fry plates with ketchup and other dips that cause fat people. It is also the insistance on eating huge amounts of breads and cereals that causes people to gain weight and therefore be fat.

Organic foods are not the answer either. Organic is only in the mind of the producer of the food. There is no standard by which it is judged.

The USA raises the healthiest foods in the whole world. The chemicals used for insecticides are perfectly safe for human consumption. The same for the chemical fertilizers. This makes the USA farmers produce much more than any other farmers in the world, but with such strict adherance to safety regulations that the rest of the world doesn't have to follow, makes it tough to raise crops and to market them.

Lastly, everyone needs to get out and walk, run, jog, bike on a daily basis. I keep reading that you should NOT do this on a daily basis, but WHY? The experts say that we need a day of rest.

I don't think that they need to close down the fast food places but there should be some sort of government mandated regulations on fat content and other things that they use to make the food so that it can still be made but they are using the healthiest ingredients as possible. I also believe that much of the problem is that the healthy food costs a lot. Just look at the organic aisles in the grocery store...those items cost at least 2 times the amount of something that is in the regular part of the store. Fast food places would be making a lot of money if they switched to healthy menus. And I'm not talking about salads because yeah many places have them but I don't want to just eat a salad for the rest of my life. I like meat too. I guess I'm kinda picky too because much of the grilled options on menus are gross to me because the meat is so dry so then you end up putting Mayo, etc on it and then there goes the healthy right out the window.

It's easier and cheaper to buy things from the frozen aisle and such. And for families on budgets, I know from experience, you buy as much as you can for how much you can spend on it. I'd like to eat healthier as i'm sure most other people would also but I also keep in mind that I have to eat EVERY DAY so I have to buy things that last and pay attention to the amount that I'm getting and for how much it costs.

I would fund more programs that will help stop people from becoming obese and help them lose weight.
No one wants to be fat.It doesn't feel good.
It's not a matter of walking away from the table or just stop eating.
There are studies now that find an "obesity chromosome ".
I am overweight due to Cushings-syndrome.I bet if more doctors checked for this disease routinely,it would help.

Good luck on your project.

Stay active throughout your life, not just when you are young. This should be taught in elementary school. A balanced diet is also an excellent way to control obesity that MUST be taught early. Go to your family physician for yearly check-ups to detect and/or prevent any glandular, cardiac and/or endocrine problems.
