Tell them that in order for anyone to quit smoking, they have to want to quit smoking. Tell them they are in danger of your second hand smoke. Tell them that you have desires to be on oxygen and die from lung cancer. Tell them that you always wanted to experience life support first hand. Tell them to leave you alone.

It's hard because they are not the addict and any addiction is very hard to quit,if indeed an individual wants to.
We cannot now smoke in public places,we now have to stand outside in all weathers and we still pay the taxes to the government,it's our choice to conform or quit.
We don't break families up like gamblers and alcoholics,we don't mug or rob for our next cigarette, our drug doesn't make us want to fight ,it's our choice to be law abiding citizens.
We don't force our addiction on anyone any more or try to sneak our drug into someone else's drink and when non-smokers realize that we are addicts but addicts now of the safest kind, in my opinion, they may try to be more understanding of our addiction.
I agree that non-smokers shouldn't have to 'share' our drug and now they don't have to as we are banished so if we want to take the risk or carry on doing what some of us enjoy they should leave us alone,it's now none of their business.

Point out something unhealthy about them like: Its also unhealthy to be fat. Works for me! Here in the States, smokers have been pushed outside (no smoking even in bars) which is fine, but if anyone wants to give me "free advice" on how I'm "gross" i try to give it back in spades. :) Hope this helps

What bothers me so much is how dangerous people think secondhand smoke can be. Yes, it may have more chemicals than the smoke we inhale, but nonsmokers are convinced that breathing secondhand smoke is more dangerous than actually smoking. I don't know about you, but when I smoke a cigarette I not only inhale the smoke from the cigarette, but I also breathe in the secondhand smoke that is floating around me. Nonsmokers get one form of the smoke. We get two. Do the math!

My ex-girlfriend was a nonsmoker (and notice the "ex"). Whenever we went out, she always complained. She kept asking me to quit smoking. When that didn't work, she always made me go outside to smoke. If we were at her house, I could understand, but when we were at my house or in my car, she insisted on me going outside to smoke just so she didn't have to smell it. After about six months of this, I finally lost it. I broke-up with her after lighting up and smoking in every room in her house. She was furious!

I understand many people may not want to be exposed to my cigarettes smoke, but there are many things about them that I don't want to be exposed to either. If they are going to bring up my flaws, then I'm going to return the favor. There are plenty of things about you that I can't stand. Society has no problem with us walking up to a person and asking them to put out their cigarette, but it's not proper etiquette to walk up to someone and say, "You need to lose some weight," or, "When was the last time you showered?"

Some nosey people will never shut up about anything until they get whatever they want.
If the government would stop supporting them it would go a long way to shutting them up. But that won't happen!
If you get a good answer please post it!

You can't - especially the Ex smokers - they're worse still. I've got a friend who calls me and all she says is 'Put that f@g out' or 'Filthy habit - I wish you'd stop' - blah blah blah. DO they really think I'm taking a blind bit of notice ??? Its my decision to smoke just as its theirs not to smoke - I dont keep saying to them 'Go on - have a cigarette - go on, go on' so I don't expect anyone to keep on at me to stop !!!!!!!

Why would you want to shut up a non-smoker? Chances are they're saying things that are good advice like "smoking can kill you and it's gross" and "please don't smoke near me because if I wanted to kill myself I'd suck on an exhaust pipe."

If you're a smoker and perfectly happy about it, these people wouldn't be able to bother you so much.

Use reverse psych. You can tell that person if they constantly nag you, its ultimately going to end up hurting them because you're just going to rebel more. if its someone you live with, let them know they have to cope with it. Its really not a huge deal. If they don't like the smell, they can use air freshener.

Don't smoke in their presence. That'll do.

Try blowing smoke in their face, they usually distance themselves or start coughing.
