I think you would need a smoker and liquid smoke flavoring to get that smoky jerky flavor. That could get pricy. You could make your own smokehouse but it might violate local ordinance; I know that my neighbors would have a stroke if I built a smokehouse outside.

You could purchase some meatless jerky and look at the ingredients and see if you can concoct something similiar for yourself. You could also search recipe sites, however, if you really want that authentic jerky flavor you'd need to smoke it and season it very well.

Honestly, isn't that about as pointless as "near beer"? I know plenty of meat eaters who could go from now on without jerky, so why would a vegetarian or vegan require it?

A nice trail mix with nuts and dried fruit should satisfy your fix for dried foods!

If you are craving to "snap into a Slim Jim" that bad, you must not be true vegan material!

tofu man - works for everything - add some cheyenne pepper amd chilli powder
