Chlorine is a gas injected into water to kill microbes. Too much chlorine will make the water taste bad and can harm plumbing. However, if you let a glass of water stand for a few minutes, the chlorine will evaporate and leave clear, clean water behind.
If your water supply has too much chlorine in it, a water filtration system can alleviate the problem.

Chlorine is toxic in large amounts. It's necessary in your public water systems for safety and sanitation.
But, it's bad for you. your hair, your skin too -- get a good filter system (for shower too)
It is a gas. Run a pitcher of tap water and let it sit a while and the chlorine leaves. Water tastes better too.
