We always have cold ham, cold Chicken and salads. There is always way too much food so we have a late lunch, about 2-3pm and that's enough for dinner as well. Not big on desserts but chocolate coated strawberries go down real well, and you can just sit them in the middle and just pick at them.

You must live somewhere South of the Equator! :) Anyway, for a summer meal that's festive, here are some ideas:

1. Icy, slushie punch
2. Grilled marinated chicken (marinate overnight in Italian dressing for the best flavor)
3. Grilled beef tenderloin (serve with a cabernet sauvignon reduction)
4. Yukon Gold potato salad with fresh dill and dijon mustard
5. Tri-color beet salad with goat cheese and fresh thyme
6. Green beans with lemon butter sauce
7. Dessert buffet with mini brownies, cupcakes, cheesecakes, cookies, truffles etc.

Need appetizers first? Consider the following:

1. Cheese platter with brie, manchenga, cheddar, havarti, and cambozola. Serve with fresh sliced fruits such as mango, papaya, pineapple, grapes, strawberries
2. Fresh crisp steamed veges with an anchovie dipping sauce (bagna cauda)
3. Eggplant dip with pita bread triangles
4. Grilled artichokes with olive oil

BBQ, salads, perhaps cook some pork etc. the night B4 and have it cold. Icecream plum puuding, YUM. Lots of sorbets. If you're in Oz consider that last year, in Melb it was snowing on the Dandenongs last year. A bit of unusual freak weather for Chrissy but you never know.

BBQ and salads will always go down well.

I like eating cold, thin-sliced ham for Christmas. On hot days, I like having pasta primavera or dishes that have lemon.

I'm in America, but in Houston, sometimes it's warm so I always make brunch instead of dinner. We eat around 1pm. but I make eggs, bacon, waffles, fruit, mimosas and other brunch type fair. Everyone likes it better than a big heavy dinner.
