I try to keep away from antibiotics as much as possible. My remedy for a sore-throat is saline gargles, atleast twice a day. Natural and healthy!

It depends on what the infection is. If you look down your throat with a flashlight and mirror and it appears red, swollen and looks pusy, you need antibiotics, usually something penicillin based unless you are allergic (amoxycillin etc.). If it is red and swollen but doesn't appear to have pus antibiotics probably wont help. Ibuprofen or paracetamol will help with the pain. Rest and lots of fluids will make for a speedy recovery. If your throat is very painful to eat, try dissolving an aspirin in a little bit of water and gargling it for a minute.

Acetilcysteine or carbocystine-based meds are good. I don't know if they have the same brand names where you are, as here in Europe, but acetylcistine is sold here under the name of Flumucil. No real side effects--it works by helping the respiratory secrete beneficial fluids to get rid of the problem.

Not what you want to hear, but what I recommend is plenty of liquids and rest, sleep if possible. It will get rid of it quicker than anything else.

Zinc is the only known substance to have any effect on colds, if cold it be, and that is a minor one. Zinc tablets might help.

I would recommend going to a doctor. Forget the over the counter.

You should try gargling with warm salt water...every half hour or so...it helps.
Also, zinc losengers will also work...they are not expensive..
Try drinking hot tea with lemon and/or honey...that will help too.
Thera flu is another good medicine that you can purchase at your local supermarket and/or drugstore...
Hope you feel better.

You have inflammation and need to see a doctor for proper meds to care for your problem. Self doctoring can be dangerous.
