I am confused I used my mothers glucose meter to check my sugar 4 days in a roll and each time I checked it came out diffrent. I did it fasting. The first day it was 114, then 95,105 and then 164. Does this mean I have diabetes?

Remember that the glucose meters admittedly are inaccurate. Some have a 20% rate of error. I've tested the same blood drop within seconds of each other with the exact same meter and the results varied by more than 15 points.

Your blood sugar will vary every single minute of every single day. It's totally normal and is supposed to do that. What you don't want is to have huge fluctuations, 70 in the morning and 300 after breakfast.

Next time you have a check up at your doctor's ask him to run an A1C test, this will give a clearer picture of what your blood sugar's been doing.

No it doesn't mean you have diabetes,it could be what you last had to eat and how long it was since your last meal. I am a bit worried about the 165, though. If that was first thing in the morning before eating anything, it could mean that you have a condition called pre-diabetes, so I would start limiting sugar and starches in my diet and keep checking your blood sugar first thing in the morning before you have had anything to eat or drink. Sometimes a blood sugar monitor malfunctions and gives you an incorrect reading, and that could have been where the 165 came from. If you get several high readings when fasting you probably should tell your doctor and have him run a glucose tolerance test. Normal fasting blood sugar should be below 110.

AFAIK a proper fasting test requires you to only take/eat/drink a special drink or known sugar qantity and they then measure after a few hours how much is left. It is usally an overnight test.

High sugar levels are not the sole indicator of diabetes. Eating lots of food high in sugars continually may be keeping them high.

Sugars may also be high from stress and disease.

Diabetics usually have other indications that lead to their diagnosis.

If you are a son, of any physical condition, and your mother is diabetic and there is a family history of diabetes, then regular checks for pre-diabetic state might be prudent.

You didnt mention your age, but anyway diabetes attacks any age bracket...you know what with these results you mentioned here may not really point out that you surely are a diabetic now...it is mostly on our food consumption..seems like that day you consumed more sugary foods or carbohydraty foods...it was inconsistent.......anyway here are soem of the signs of a diabetec victim..he sweats alot, he gets tired easily, he has blurred vision, he gets hungry all the time,he urinates a lot, he easily gets irritated, he has pain somewhere in the chest, and of course he loses weight too...but dont take it from me...better yet go and consult a specialist.it is better early than late so you can have a peace of mind ok???cheer up..if you have diabetes then..this sickness is manageable..its only exercise and diet, ok???

Absolutely not.

Target glucose levels are: before meals 90-130 and 1-2 hrs after a meal (less than 180).

Aside from checking your blood sugar ask yourself these questions.

Are you always thirsty?

Do you urinate frequently?

Are you always hungry or tired?

Are you losing weight without even trying?

Don't worry yourself, but do things to reduce the risk of developing diabetes like, exercise and weight control through proper diet.

Good Luck.

depends on when you check it

now when fasting - it could get crazy as you need sugar -
you body presses the liver button and says "Send Some"
(your liver has a storage area for glucose) and it doesn't matter
if you have need 5 or 10% - the liver may go ahead and send 20%

so you get a reading like 164 - when fasting - (BUT I didn't eat anything - excatly)

2 hours after a basic meal - should be under 200

and here's a great article

They are all within normal limits with the exception of the 164. There may have been an error or you might have eaten something and forgot.

Something is a mist. Get a hold of your Doctor and find out when he will want to get you checked out. Don't guess and mess good around with your life. Get it checked and get it checked now.
