If you're hosting a party, just do a mix of all kinds of music.. that way you won't be listening to music for just one group of people. It also depends a lot on the ages of your guests. I wouldn't do much hip hop if they're in their 40s. You might even want to throw in some country if you can handle that. Just mix it up so you don't have the same type of music playing for an hour at a time and you'll be fine.

A lot depends on the age of your guests and the setting. In your own home play what you like and include some cross over artists such as Santana and Ben E. King. At work you might get an oldies mix popular music and even big band for the older than 60 year olds. ( Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitgerald & Glenn Miller) For the holidays a mixed Christmas album would be appropriate. Kenny G is always good and look at some low key classic music (George Winston's solstice albums) to start things out as guests arrive then step up the tempo. I really enjoy getting a taste of other cultures. To be invited to someone's home is a treat especially if I get to try some tamales or something new that is a tradition in the hosts family.

Honestly, I think it would matter MORE the age-group and your location than just the RACE...
The bar I frequent & work part time at is a working-class California bar with three distinct crowds:
Morning crowd wants the TV, no music (grumpy OLD white-guys)
The Noon to Night crowd will listed to ANYTHING except hip-hop... rock/pop from the 40's thru 90's, Blues, Country, etc.
The NIGHT crowd listens to almost the same mix as the Afternoon crowd... but more current and some hip-hop.
Just Myself, I will listen to Abba to Aerosmith, Beatles to Brad Paisley, ZZ-top to Zappa...
GOOD LUCK

I'm white & like most of the other white folks I know, we like the same kinda music as everyone. Hip hop, pop, rock & roll & I do like salsa. I was born on Cinco de Mayo & I've liked salsa even before I knew I was born on a Mexican holiday. It is celebrated here in the states more than in Mexico! I am from the S.Western USA and moved from S. California to S. Nevada & We love salsa here like folks in the south love their country music, which I also like. I say a good mix of music is always safe:-)
GOOD LUCK & HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Black and white social gathering? i anticipate it has no longer something to do with race. in case you mean black tie, properly, classical music is often performed, a dash mellow jazz. Classical music would not inevitably mean Mozart, and mundane music, there are some very superb collections out. Yoyo Ma, you may desire to objective Andrea Bocelli, Kenny G- do a seek. mixture it up and that i think of that's going to be superb.

It really depends.
I like Oi and hardcore music (white origin) lmao.
In the south, country is popular so we're stereotyped to be obsessed with country.
I like Southern Gospel though... country is good.
But really, it depends.

Well, if you want a true answer i'll tell ya ,but if u are having a "white" party, i would tell u to play whatever BLACK people listen to, because most 'WHITES' like that kinda stuff. And play a few white songs.
