i'm a vegetarian going out to eat, i need help! :(?

Question

i am a vegetarian and i'm ver yinto cookign my own meals, and when i do go out to eat i usually choose a resturaunt where i know i have vegetarian options. i'm going into the city on a double date with my boyfriends co-worker and his girlfriend to see the tree and do dinner. if a resturaunt we go to doesnt have a vegetarian menu, would they jsut make me up a plate of vegtables with rice or soemthing or is that being a difficult customer?

It does depend entirely on the restaurant (and the staff that is working that night). I have been vegetarian for 24 or so years and have only been to a handful of restaurants where I couldn't find something to eat. Actually, only once (some ridiculous fancy restaurant)- all of the other few times were since I turned vegan... as a vegetarian you will almost always be able to find something.

My standby restaurant meal for places that don't offer much is typically a salad and a baked potato (or fries). It's not the greatest meal in the world but it'll get you through.

Most restaurants will not really want to make you something custom (eg. a plate of vegetables) but you can easily order something and just have them leave off what you don't want. Eg. the Asian Chicken Salad, hold the chicken. (Waste of money but okay occasionally.)

Like one other person said- call the restaurant in advance. If you find out where you are going beforehand, just give them a call and ask them to give you an idea of what vegetarian items they have.

But truthfully- it's hardly even worth worrying about. Like I said, you will pretty much always be able to find something you can eat.

my parents rarely cook at home, and we go out to eat a lot. it bugs me, but there is always something on the menu that will be meat free. some dishes may come with meat (pastas), but you can request it without meatballs or chicken or whatever is on the dish. be careful with soups, though. know what kinds of broths are in soups and if there may be added meat. even if it says "potato soup" it might include bacon, so ask for details, then subtract the bacon (or whatever). yes, a lot of places will make up meals for people that are simple or a variation of what they already make if requested; things like a plate of vegetables with rice, noodles, whatever. try to find separate ingredients on the menu, then request a couple of them together. good luck at the restaurant.

I find most restaurants wonderful on helping people with different dietary needs. Think outside the box. Salad, Veggies; cooked or raw, rice, potatoes, fresh pasta dishes w/veggies etc.
Don't fret just be pleasant to the wait staff.
If you know where you are going check online for thier menu, it always helps me know ahead of time.

But at the very least, you should be able to get salad pretty much anywhere.

i dont know about that, but i know there has to be something on the menu thats vegitarian friendly, even if it does say right out vegitarian. if there is abousouly nothing just order a simple salad.

no not at all ! if there isn't any vegetables I am pretty sure thoe there will be but just in case there isn't you know you can make your own by telling them what you would like.

they probably sell spagetti, and if it comes with meat balls, ask for no meat balls, salads are great, ask for no chicken or whatever, and soups are fantastic, they might have cheese pizza, or mac and cheese, chicken alfredo without the chicken, etc, it will be fine
