If you are not symptomatic (which varies from person to person) I would check your meter with the control solution. If that's OK, I would check your sugar again. If it is still low, then I'd get to the ER (either by ambulance or by someone else driving you) to have a venous sugar drawn.
Side Note: 23 is not incompatible with life. My sugar has been as low as 18 before. Granted, I had some extreme symptoms, but I treated it with some juice and other food (I have never passed out from low sugar, knock on wood) and it came up.

Do you take lantus?
If you do, you may not be taking in enough sugar/carbs to over come it.
Are you having any symptoms of low blood sugar?...shaky, sweating, feeling like poo
If not, do your sugars drop low a lot?
Most people know when their sugars are low when they hit the 60's, but if you consistently drop low, your body will become accustomed to it and you won't have any symptoms till you go lower.
I've had patients as low as 42 without any symptoms and I have seen patients with sugars in the teens...of course they were babbling incoherently and sweating like they had just gotten out of the shower.
This is what I'd suggest you do:
1. get a source of quickly absorbed sugar&carbs, some thing like a glass of OJ, glucose gel or tabs (I'd suggest at least 5 or 6 tabs with the reading you got) then check your sugar again in about 30 min.
In the mean time:
2. Check the expiration date on all your supplies.
3.
A. Do a Q.C. (do the check using the high & low solutions) this will give you an idea if something is wrong with the machine.
B. Check a friend or family's sugar (that's not diabetic), if you get a low reading on them and you haven't done a QC, I would most definitely do one now.
Somethings to think about...
---are you near the end of the bottle of your strips? If so, try some new ones, your old strips might be bad.
---Know anyone else that tests their sugar? See if they will let you test using their meter & supplies and let them use yours.
Now, if it's been about 30 minutes....do a recheck of your sugar.
If it's gone up a little, take some more tables or juice, you might want to have some peanut butter at this stage to help keep your sugars from dropping like a rock later. check again in about 30 minutes.
If it's gone down or stayed the same, and you have no symptoms chances are really good that there is something wrong with the machine or your supplies.
Either way, I would put a call to your MD after the recheck and let them know what is going on. They will give you instructions as to what they want you to do.
Now, at ANY point you start feeling the symptoms of low blood sugar, get to the ER and don't forget your meter and supplies when you go so you can show the nurse & doc what your readings were.
Good Luck

I agree, Check your meter, and if it is ok retest your sugar. 23 is a severe low, but you can still be alive. I have been that low myself, i woke up at 6 am with a 23 blood sugar, drank juice and was fine. Are you still active after you eat? that could play a role into your numbers not rising. Also you may have caught yourself on the way down, meaning when you test later your lower then a few hours later you shoud be on your way up. However if you cant get it to rise, call your Doctor, or the ER and see what they say. or just go in via a friend or ambulance....do NOT drive yourself with a low blood sugar.

BG of 23 is NOT inconsistent with life, although you would likely be heading towards unconconciousness. My husband's blood sugar has been as low as 16 in the past. Try eating a real high-carb meal, lots of pasta or potatoes. You will need to go to the ER if you can't get it up by eating. Are you on insulin? an overdose of long-acting insulin would cause this.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.
Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

Disorientation, slurred speech, sweating, shaking, and irritability are common signs of low blood sugar. Uncorrected, low blood glucose can be dangerous. If you are diabetic and you notice such symptoms checking your blood glucose and correcting as necessary should be done as soon as possible. It is important for diabetics who experience lows such as this to educate people around them in advance as to what do to in the event they become unable to help themselves. Some diabetics become unconscious and end up in the hospital at 28. Please take this seriously. Your doctor should know this has taken place in the event you're on medications because they may need to be adjusted. Or you may just need to remember to eat more often so this doesn't happen. If you're a minor you should let your parents know what happened as well.

I had a problem with my blood sugar the other day. I ended up drinking close to a litre of fresh orange juice, taking 20mg of glucose gel, 4 glucose tablets, toast with jam and half a dozen biscuits before I get the blood sugar to rise to 4.1. It took 2 hrs to stop it falling. It was very frightening and I felt very poorly.
For some reason my need for insulin had changed and I had overdosed.
