That's an interesting question. One key issue is that farmed animals only exist in such large numbers because we breed them (often through artificial insemination) in order to slaughter them for food. As more people become vegetarian, there will be less of a demand for meat and so fewer animals will be bred.. their population will be reduced.
If everyone eventually goes veg, the number of farmed animals will likely be very, very tiny compared to what it is now.

If everybody just up and quit all on the same day it might be interesting. But, the animals we eat are created for us to eat them. So as demand lessens so would the animal population.
People won't stop eating meat, ever. The source of the meat may already be changing though.

Life will take its course. I mean if you think about it like for yourself. We're over populated and no one has decided hey maybe we should eat other humans cause theres too many of us. I think its the same for us. I mean if you think that was a crazy statement you can see it from the animals point of view. Its just not right to. Thats why we shouldn't do. What right do we have taking another's life?

They wouldnt be bred to be killed. I agree with majnun99, people are overpopulating the world, how about we go out and start killing and eating them? Animals wouldnt kill you, why would they bother killing humans? The animals that most people eat do not harm us.

How old are you?
I have never heard this question from anyone above the age of 12, or anyone who has ever taken a simple economics class.

animals are bred by humans (at least the ones eaten are) and if nobody ate them, nobody would breed them, therefore they would not be overpopulated. actually, most factory farm animals would not exist. so i suggest you rethink the question and go back to school or something.

No, first many animals you eat herbivores
second there is a LARGE amount of animals out there because we breed them. If demand goes dowm farm production will go down.

Okay... no. If all of the farms and the meat factories quit BREEDING them for food, I don't think that would happen. Sorry... find another reason to hate us.

Nope. I understand cows are pretty gentle unless you try to take their babies away.
Animals are artificially overbred; over 10 billion animals are slaughtered every year in the U.S. If people stopped eating meat, they wouldn't be bred, so they would reproduce in far smaller numbers than they do now.

Somebody needs to start eating all those people then; they are already overpopulating and killing each other.
