You're going to have to be a little less picky, my dear. I've learned to expand my palate since becoming vegan. And, hey, what about eating vegetables? Steam or stir-fry the veggies you like and serve with brown rice--and dinner is served.
Tofu is an acquired texture, and it does take practice to prepare it correctly. Do you freeze and press your tofu? That reduces the mushiness.
You can also try tempeh, a product made of fermented soy beans. Seitan is made from wheat gluten and is called "wheat meat". Many vegan cookbooks have methods for cooking seitan. I use the Arrowhead Mills Vital Wheat Gluten, which saves time and effort.
I'm not a big fan of beans either, unless they're served with something crunchy. If you make a beany chili and serve it with fries, it will hide the beaniness you may not like. Lentils are a legume, so they're more like beans than like onions.
There are also numerous mock meats--veggie burgers, veggie sausages, veggie strips for stir-fry, veggie crumbles, veggie deli slices, etc. Experiment a bit. You're sure to find something you like.
Check out www.vegweb.com for recipes and resources. And stop obsessing about protein. You don't need that much to be healthy.

My husband is a meat eater, but also very picky. I made him a tempeh cheese burger one day and he loved it. I'll give the recipe below. Tempeh is higher in protein then tofu and although they are both made of soy, tempeh is fermented and has a less soy-y, more nutty taste. It also has a better texture IMO.
Heres the recipe for the burger. You could eat this plain with veggies as well or put it into any sandwich or stir fry you could imagine.
-cut the Tempeh, into thin, burger size pieces (or w/e shape you need for what you will use it for)
- Marinade the Tempeh in a mixture of: soy sauce, sesame oil, spices (any will do that you like, or just use pepper), nutirtional yeast (full of amino acids and vitamins), balsamic vinegar (just a little bit relative to the soy sauce), and miso paste (optional). Let the tempeh sit in this for a while.
-grill or sautee or broil the tempeh. You can brush on the excess marinade if you want and extra savory taste.
- use it to make a burger (with w/e fixings you like) or any other meal. It has a very savory taste so you could use it in place of meat for w/e.
Good Luck.
P.S: Lentils don't taste like onions, they taste beany...which means you probably won't like them either. :)

Vegetarian tacos With black beans to replace ground beef(I love black beans and when I have those instead of meat I don't feel like I'm missing out on a thing) Chopped tomatoes Sour cream Shredded cheese Chopped romaine lettuce Taco Sauce Avocado Tortilla or a taco shell Lots of green salads with olive oil added, anything with berry at the end, pomegrantes, spinach. Silk Soy milk is also really healthy and rich in calcium and soy protein. I would guzzle down a couple glasses of that good stuff daily.

There is protein in nearly everything, but especially in legumes. Now you listed a lot of legumes which you said you don't like. total bummer. But there are plenty of other great ones out there. Do a quick search.
PS. Lentils taste nothing like onions, I believe you confused them with scallions

look for quorn products. and do browse the shops in your area thoroughly for things like vegimince and deli slices (fake chicken is OK but the ham is brilliant. also loads of places now have vege sausages, and keep an eye out to for Linda McCartney produce as well. pasta and cheese is a good recipe and cauliflower sauce. use your imagination and don't be afraid to experiment. and don't forget all fruit is OK and is also good for you. Mushrooms are like the quorn made from them very high in protein and good for you.

did you like omellets? if so you will like this...it has a very similar texture and appearance - if you will take the gamble you will have to buy a block of solid tofu - the water packed kind - in the fridge not the one in the cartons on the grocery shelf.... (I hate that stuff too) slice it into a 'steak' thinner than a slice of bread and fry it til golden brown - I cant believe you wouldnt like it...its great like that I PROMISE...
buy Kashi nutri grain crunch it has lots of protein and fibre - definitly get quorn - buy the white pieces one...that stuff is cool...
have you tried amy's products? - personally I love it..try the veggie quarter pounders.. or her pizzas..
