Has anyone heard about what happened in Athens before the Olympics? (In case you haven't, the people there poisoned all the street cats and dogs to "clean up" before the olympics came). Does anyone know if this is happening in China before the olympics in Beijing?

Yes they are doing the same thing. I have signed petitions about it. Look up Boycott China, I think that is how I found out. Yes humans have it bad there too, but animals feel pain and have emotions and a will to live just like humans. No species deserves to suffer anymore or less than another.

Lets face facts, China has a long way to go with human rights before it even starts with animal rights.

I heard this morning on state propaganda TV, 800 million of its citizens live in rural areas. 200 million of them have are poor.

Given that an rural house would be the USA version of being poor. Even so the USA has a population round about370 million ish.

But what has happen was last year they had an anti-rabies campian in remote cites in China and clubed to death something like 30,000 dogs according to Western newspaper reports.

But even with all that said every City that has held the Olympics games has voliated human rights in one way or another, be it from knocking down poor peoples homes or rounding them up and sending them somewhere else. But as of yet no reports of stray animals have been rounded up, the Chinese are too wise to let there animals run around wild.

To add on to what VeggieTart wrote:

China is notorious for inhuman treatment of what we in america consider companion animals. Its noted that most of the Leather coming out of China is potentionally made from cats and dogs. Therefore I wouldn't assume china to do the ame thing as Athens, because It would be a profit loss.

Sad but true.

actually i think poisoning them is a better death than what they do suffer...(as horrible as that sounds)... actually i think the opposite is happening in china... a lot of animal right groups (and others!) are telling china to clean up its act for the olympics and its working to a very very very small extent

China already has a horrendous record when it comes to treatment of animals. Some months ago, it come out that fur sold in the U.S. may very well be from cats and dogs--people's pets, I might add--kidnapped, kept in cages, and brutally beaten to death or skinned alive. Their "juices" were used to make "tonics."

So I don't know how much worse China can get with regard to animals.
