Catching flu doubles the short-term risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke, according to new research. The increased risk recedes after the first seven days and virtually vanishes after a month, but the finding may help explain why heart attacks and strokes are more common in winter.

It isn't necessarily the flu that brings you at risk, it is the weakening of your immune system by having the virus that leaves your body more susceptible to other things.

I can tell you EXACTLY what your dog had because my little precious Sadie had the same exact thing. Luckily though our vet was able to save her. Your puppy more than likely had parvo which is a disease that small dogs can get and can easily harm them. The systems of parvo are diarrhea, not eating and lack of sleep, and throwing up. It can be really contagious to other dogs so I suggest if you have any to bleach your house so that the other dog cannot get this disease. I do not believe that it is contagious to humans however I am not fully sure to be honest. But....just bleach your home and use disinfectant spray. If worked for us.- P.S. Sorry about your loss and hope this helps to answer your question. Have a great day!

I don't believe it for a minute.People like myself who are asmatic, elderly or volnerable people get it for free from the doctors cos it can turn into pneumonia and kill you.First the government were talking about stopping these free jabs for volnerable people to save money then you suddenly get health risk reports coming out-strange coincidence I think!
Also if Ahwell's friend died of a heart attack while he had the flu isn't it all the more reason to have the jab?

Yes, an old friend of mine died of a heart attack while he had the flu. The doctors said he was heading for a heart attack, but the flu brought it on.

influenza causes an inflammatory process in the body. The inflammation is what can lead to increased risk of heart attack, not the virus itself.
