My son is turning one in late December. We are planning a small get together with family(10-15 people). We're doing a Tonka truck themed party, and this is the first time my family will be together in 5 years. Im looking for ideas for his party, small, meaningful things that he can look back on. I don't want him to be overstimulated, but I would like to have activities to get my family involved. Any suggestions?

Make a time capsule that he can open at his 18th birthday. Provide little notecards so your relatives can write him a special note and include it in the time capsule. Also include photos of all the people at the party, your house (he'll be amazed at how much it changes in 17 years!), pictures of favorite toys etc. These are fun and meaningful and will get your whole family involved.

I agree with Rhonda. Have a small cake for the birthday boy, and the rest of the party is more for the adults. Take as many pictures of him with the older relatives as you can. Some of them will probably not be around when he gets much older and he won't remember them. Make sure all the relatives get a picture of him. Put him to bed at his regular time. Don't disrupt his routine. He won't remember anything about this day.

A first bday is kind of hard for a child to remember but I know one of my friends did a carnival party for her 5 year old where she made funnelcakes and snow cones & hac the kids bob for apples. Maybe you can do something like that when hes a little older. Sorry I am not much of a help...

Have several cameras available...video and still shot...let the kid rule the day and capture it all on tape...for a 1 year old it doesn't really matter...Now, for the visiting family...keep plenty of food available and plan activities for them based on their ages.
