I always get confused as to why everyone has to be lumped into certain categories. No if you eat fish you technically aren't a vegetarian, but come on, does it really matter?

Yes, there are pescaterians (vegetarians that eat fish, shellfish, other sea creatures); I'm not sure where that started. It's sort of the Catholic definition of vegetarian or something, I grew up in a strict Eastern European Catholic family where on Fridays, you could not eat meat. However, fish didn't count as meat. Same as Christmas Eve in my family - you couldn't eat meat, and yet there was fish on the table. I guess it's because Jesus ate fish in the Bible, but didn't eat any other animal, so somehow fish are okay. Also, before "Finding Nemo", fish weren't seen sympathetically as creatures that feel pain and experience life like many other animals do.

No vegetarians do not eat fish. Fish is not a vegetable, but for some reason some meat eaters seem to consider it that.
I'm a pescaterian. I don't eat red meat poultry or dairy, but I do consume fish. However my friends keep calling me vegan which is totally wrong.
I am considering becoming vegan lately though.

Do you guys know that there is vegetarian oked food that is meat? As long as it died a natural death some veggies eat meat. As for Vegan's no animal products what so ever, they are very strict. For some it's about the treatment and death of these animals being consumed and for others allergies, or they don't like the taste texture etc. My cousin claims to be a vegetarian and only eats fish once in a while..I say if your a vegetarian you don't eat meat? but who knows

Vegetaians do not eat flesh of anything that once was alive. Pescatarians eat fish, but no meat. There are many website available for pescatarians. Its a common misconception that vegetarians eat seafood or fish, but a true veggie does not.

Vegetarians do not eat fish.
a pescaterian is not a "vegetarians that eat fish, shellfish, other sea creatures"
A pescaterian is a person who restricts their meat intake to sealife.
There is no need to falsely associate it with the word vegetarian.
and, yes, it does matter. Its not about "labels". Its about definitions that allow us to communicate.
It would make no sense for me to say I'm a black person that is white. So why say I'm a vegetarian that eats animals.
Its a shame that vegetarians are now finding they are having to use words like "strict vegetarian", "pure vegetrarian" or "dictionary vegetarian" because of all this fishy business.
You will not find ANY recognised leading vegetarian society that recginised vegetarians as eating fish, here is what the worlds oldest and largest veggie society has to say on the subject. They defined the word in June 1847 at thier innagural meeting so i think they probably know what it means:
http://www.vegsoc.org/fish , since 1847
You will find a similar statement from peta and IVU.
http://www.ivu.org/faq/definitions.html , since 1908
http://www.peta.org/about/faq-veg.asp , since 1980
So thats the 3 largest covered. How much more evidence do we need.

There's no such thing as a fish-eating vegetarian.
Vegetarians eat no animal flesh.
Fish are animals.
Therefore, one who eats fish is not a vegetarian.

I think the term is "pesco-vegetarian" but some do not accept the use of the "vegetarian" if you eat fish. There are generally accepted labels based on conventional wisdom. How you call and see yourself based on your own beliefs, however, is the only one that should really matter.
