Absolutely!!!! Quitting smoking does help to prolong your life but some of the damage done is irreversible. The heart and Lungs take the biggest hit! I know it is difficult seeing someone you love suffer but be thankful he has lived to be 82....that is so wonderful!! By his quitting smoking he has given all of you so many more years with him, it is truly a gift. My best to you!!

yea he probably still has some symptoms of pulmonary emphysema. granted he quit over 20 years ago which is good, smoking for 15-20 years will cause the initial stages of emphysema. shortness of breath, fatigue... the best thing he could do was quit... but he still has some partial affects.

A doctor would say yes, but I'll say absolutely not being as he's about 15 yr's past his life expectancy. My mother died just before her 80 th and the drs. tried to prove it was cancer. It wasn't. She was 80, that's why she died.
