Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that is caused by either a virus or by a bacteria. Both are serious and can cause extensive damage to the lung tissue. Wearing socks to bed will do nothing more than keep your feet warm. I can't cause an increase in infection in your lungs. So if you have cold feet, wear the socks and stay warm.

Maybe if they are wet and it is freezing outside and you are sleeping outside too....No, pneumonia is a complication arising from an infection in your lungs from a previous bad cold or cough. Water builds up in your lungs and you will get shortness of breath and your chest and back hurt, wearing socks to bed will not cause pneumonia.

Who have you been talking too. I sleep with my socks on and have been for over 30 years. I've never in my life had pneumonia. Go for it baby.

Yes. The nighttime temperature of one's feet is in direct proportion to the cause of infection or other problems in a person's lungs. But keep in mind that pneumonia acquired in this manner, from wearing socks to bed, can be easily cured by shaking a pair of chicken feet over the patient every 6 hours for 17 days.

Pneumonia is caused by external agents like fungi, viruses, bacteria, and others entering the lungs.
Wearing socks while sleeping will not give you pneumonia unless you wear them down your throat.

LOL, did you miss the "wet" part? Even that is a far stretch. If you go to sleep with wet socks on, you might catch a cold if your immune system is shot, but not pneumonia! Socks are simply cotton . . . on your feet. Like cotton on your arms.

So, not true. If it were true, the fact would be more widely spread.

No it's not. Can't even begin to figure the logic behind that one. Not to jinx myself, but I've never had pneumonia and I sleep in socks in the winter. Maybe if you buy the new crappy scented socks and the scent irritates your sinuses you may get sinus/respiratory irritation, but otherwise NO.

socks is a short term for Sammy Opts for Cosy Keeping Socks, not Sammy Offends Caring Kids Stories (about pneumonia).

WHO IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU? When you go to bed at night, you should wear "socks" and a "night cap." It is my understanding that more than 80% of the body's heat goes out via the top of the head. The "feet" need to be covered with socks to retain what "heat" is there. This also helps prevent arthritis that can set in almost immediately. Of course, this is dictated by hereditary traits. I wish you well.

I sleep with my socks on all the time & haven't gotten pneumonia once.
