Well, it's fallen from £425 to under £280 since launching in the UK. The current RRP is £299.99 for the Sony PlayStation 3 40GB package (includes: console, wireless SIXAXIS controller, AV Scart Connector, AV & USB cables). You can currently buy it online with a free HMDI cable for £279.99 (or get it with a game or an extra controller for £299.99)...

To scooter, PS3 is not lower than the 360 because the Arcade is $279 and the Premium is $350. Also, the PS3 80GB is $499 and the Xbox 360 Elite (120GB) is $449 and comes with two games. To answer the question though, Sony can't afford to lower their price anymore. Like Scooter said, they are already highly in debt due to the PS3. Sorry to say, but the PS3's $399 price point isn't going anywhere for a long time.

That's a pretty tough question. At the moment for the UK, Sony have dumbed it down to a 40GB version that is lower priced.

My gut feeling is that at some stage next year there will be a further reduction to £249ish for that model, and maybe they'll reintroduce a top end one - like the USA with a 120GB hard disk and backward compatability.

But who knows with sony!!

I can't see how they could lower the price any lower, it's already cheaper than the 360 except for the Arcade edition. They're currently losing tons of money on each one sold, production costs of these units are rumored to be around $580 each, with that said if they're selling them at $399 and $499, they're losing a considerable amount of money on each one sold.
The only way they could lower the price any more would be if the production costs went down considerably.

Hard tellin' not knowin'. I'd be more inclined to believe that it will maintain its price point for the most part but include more/better things like the Dualshock 3 and hopefully reintroduce backwards compatibility.
