Though NYC is probably the safest big city in the USA, I really doubt if it were safer than London. To those who lived (or even visited) both cities, which one is safer; according to your own experience?

In NYC, you really have to go out of your way to find an unsafe area, and those that are clearly look it. Almost every part of the city is fine in recent times; it's bad rep comes mostly from the late 70s and 80s.

London of recent years is getting rather iffy, it seems. I don't know it well enough to compare, in all honesty, but I doubt overall it is safer than NY.

London is safer. Gun crime is rare. Even most policemen don't carry guns. I wouldn't live in Bermondsey, if I could avoid it. If you are not an inner city lover, the outer Boroughs would suit you more. You might even like one of the commuter towns outside London. There are good places to live on the line between Tunbridge Wells and London Bridge Station (eg Sevenoaks, Orpington, Chislehurst Petts Wood, Elmstead Woods). They might be expensive.

I'd rather stay in Syracuse than visit New Yuck! It's much safer here.

New York City by far. There is something very wrong with the youth in London these days, very very violent and wrong, and it's widespread.

New York I knew where I could go and where not to go. In London, things may look safe but it's not and you will not know where to go to get to safety. Plus they drive on the opposite side of the road and you might get into a wreck, now that's unsafe.

Besides terrorism, NYC doesn't have the IRA to worry about. I think they are about equal. Guiliani really cleaned NYC up when he was in office.

Safer from what? Terrorists can attack either, whenever they wish, but the average crook is more likely to use a gun in the US.
