The Bible answers this question at Genesis 8:21. Mankind's natural inclination is toward bad. This is due to inherited sin and imperfection. It takes effort to practice righteousness. The apostle Paul said "when I wish to do what is right, what is bad is present with me. I really delight in the law of God according to the man I am within, but I behold in my members another law warring against the law of my mind and leading me captive to sin’s law that is in my members" (Romans 7:21-23) Although doing what is good and right may be difficult, it becomes easier as we draw close to God and put on the new Christian personality.(Ephesians 4:24; Colossians 3:10)

We live, and struggle, with a sin nature. It was with us when we were born. Even the greatest of saints have struggled with this. Fortunately, God knows it is not us, but the sin nature within us, that causes all these problems. He is quick to forgive and forget if we simply repent.
We can try harder. We might succeed for a while. But we will never be rid of this sin nature until Jesus returns. So just accept it, do you best and if you stumble, don't forget to say you're sorry. That we sin is not as important as that we turn back to God.

People choose bad things because that's what they want. When they want good things, that's what they'll choose. To stop choosing bad things, we have to replace the desire for those things with something more desirable, i.e., the good things. It boils down to what we attach ourselves to. When the payoff for choosing the good things out-does the payoff for choosing the bad things, people will change. Deep thinking is necessary to understand that to change the world, we have to be the change we want to see in the world. We cannot change the world by continuing to behave in the ways that make the world an inhumane and unjust place. We want to think that what we do is insignificant and therefore not necessary to change. However if we look at the upstream and downstream knock-on effects of our choices and behaviors and we multiply that by the number of people who have made the same choices as we have made, we can see that the impact is great.

It is our nature to do wrong. Bad things are easy, and pleasure is good for the moment. But all bad things have a price to pay.
We are sinful creatures. No one has ever been sinless. I even see this in my 4 year old. I didnt teach her to be decepetive, but its just her nature to do so. That is why we need Jesus. To give us a new nature!!

It is the nature of man to be sinful.Any time you want do good evil is always present.Without restraint man would become as a pack of animals.God only lets mankind go so far even if the 10 commandments are being removed from court house walls.Ironic isnt it,taken down from the very place that reinforces them.

I don't think this is true depends on whats sinful depends on what religion you believe in!! Is Making love to Ur partner unmarried sinful so the catholic church says but somehow i don't think I'm going to burn in hell! we have been programmed to think certain things are sinful when they are not! Murder and abuse yes these are sinful but morally without any religion influence we would know this, I think we need to reevaluate what sinful means i remember eating sweets at lent when i was a child and being so scared i was going to go to hell and that's what my so called church embeds in its followers, Sinful is in the eye on the offender but its not making love when Ur unmarried or eating sweets at lent or saying **** Off or telling white Lies.

People tend to do things that make them feel good, and avoid doing things that do not make them feel good. Wouldn't it be a bit pointless to forbid something that nobody would want to do anyhow. If there was an commandment saying "thou shalt not hit an ostrich with a hummer", the only people violating it would be ones who violate it just for the sake of breaking commandments.

because sin (which amounts to making decisions that either hurt others or put us in "bondage" (addictions).......is based out of self and self gratification. If you serve Jesus and give your life to him you will find that you want to be free of "sin'.and you will overcome it. You know "Darwin's friend" that answered your question obviously has no explanation for all the crime in this world..........if doing bad things to yourself isn't sin what do you call it? well all need meds because we all have some "disease" to cope with? I think not.

If you believe in God and accept Jesus as your personal lord and saviour you can do all the bad sinful things you want. Didn't you know that it's a get out of hell free card?

from a religious point of view, i guess you could say God gave us the freedom to think for ourselves.
I dont believe in god anymore.
its easy to give into temptation because we like pleasure, thats our nature as human beings.
