In my family, Christmas is a very religious holiday. My children pray every night, and we save up our money all year so that we can buy as many gifts for ourselves and our friends as possible.
The neighbors next door say that they do not believe in Santa Claus, and yet they still put up a tree and hand out presents. This just seems wrong to me. This holiday was not intended to be enjoyed by people who are not celebrating the birth of Saint Nicolas.
The neighbor children are often at our house after school to play. If they continue to spread their non-believing attitudes to my children, I'm afraid I'll have to ask them to stop coming. Is it wrong for me to sit them down and tell them about the birth of Santa, the 8 reindeer, and the true meaning of Christmas?

If Pagans have no problem with me celebrating it, then I honestly don't know why should Christians have a say in it.

I think the day of Christmas is the Christian holiday. the "Christmas Season" or holiday season is just the rush to shop and eat candy and pig out and party and get drunk they are two different things Christmas Day is the end of the Christmas Season, to most people, so for a nonbeliever, Christmas Day isn't really the point. It's just the day you have the big meal and open presents. The main thing is just to celebrate because the whole country is celebrating, and it's mostly a winter holiday for family and friend get togethers.

I wish Christmas was still just a Christian Holiday but I am afraid it has become a shopping holiday and it is called Winter Holiday.I celebrate it as Jesus Birthday even though he was born in late summer. This date was set aside for everyone to Celebrate His birtth.I remember growing up and everyone doing that.It was such a blessing.
I wouldn't set the neighbors children down and tell them nor would I not let my Children play with them.Your Children need to be strong in the faith and share there beliefs as the neighbors share theres.Sat your Children down and tell why your neighbors believe as they do. You could buy your neighbors Children a picture book about the story of Jesus Birth as a Christmas gift.

a seed grows sometimes where planted ; he who is without sin , cast the first stone; judgment is Gods and Gods alone; if at the this time, the season infiltrates and causes some good ; if people are strong in their faith , no one can sway them no matter how hard they try; you have a chance to share a gift that you have; these are children and God loved all children ; share what you have and what you know and who knows someday it made be the seed in their life

When my son was younger, there was a bully who wouldn't let him pass ; I went to his parent and after leaving and walking away, I could hear the parents hitting him; I then understood why he was like he is; after that I called him over and just spoke to him , told him that I was sorry and that I knew that he was a good person that wouldn't do this any more and he didn't ; he use to come by all the time and sit on the porch with me and offer to help me all the time; he just needed different attention; I wished that I had done more for him b/c later on I heard that he was in jail ; perhaps if I did more, it would have helped; he was just a child with bad parents ; it wasn't his fault; I hope my experience helps you to make the right or better decision. This holiday is about the birth of Jesus; St. Nicholas was a man who had that spirit in his heart, the spirit of giving due to Jesus ; Merry Christmas

I don't see why people should be stopped from celebrating Christmas. Something about the love of God might just rub off on them. I support strongly the people who like to give children a good experience of Christianity.
Allowing children to play with children who have been brought up with a different faith or no faith is difficult but I would suggest that in most cases the lifestyle of their parents and their love would counteract any negative influences. We need to trust God.
One point from the first answer is that I don't understand why people get so worked up about the origin of the holiday. If we Christians want to celebrate the birth of Christ on a particular day what is the problem?

What is real? What is truth? I can prove lots of things with science and statistics, then turn around and prove the exact opposite with the same tools. What matters in the story is what you get out of it, not the symbols contained within. No one can control the interpretation of the symbols, so therefore the symbols aren't the important part.

As Zizek sort of once said at a speech at a college some time ago, you don't have to understand your 'neighbor'. But maybe you should hold some respect for them for they suffer from the same human condition as everyone else. They, too, have life problems to trudge through and solve.

Actually, a better question is if Christians should celebrate Christmas, given that it is a pagan holiday that is mentioned NOWHERE in the Bible and contains aspects which have NOTHING to do with Jesus: christmas trees, lights, presents, reindeers and Santa Claus.

P.S. Oh, nevermind... :)

I am angered and I am sickened that there are those that still do not allow Kris Kringle into their hearts! Santa was crucified 2000 years ago so we could have cheap novelties in our stockings, and this and his subsequent reserruction in the form of a great Bunny are proven in scripture and not to be denied. Have they not heard the many parables and stories of Santa's teachings, how he turned water into nog? The lessons he taught about the joy of begging random strangers in malls for selfish gifts are needed more and more in our modern world. If you do not have Santa in your hearts, your children are doomed to years of damnation in a world without a GI Joe Mega Action Playset, and if thats what you want for your children then so be it, but those people sicken me.

People celebrate halloween, many dont really know why it exists other than you get candy and get to wear costumes.

I don think you should tell them to stop coming, what would your children say? what would you tell them?

thats just what i think. and i see nothing wrong with people celebrating christmas but not being religious. I dont go to church anymore, but even when I did, my family did not do anything religious at our christmas gatherings.

You're kidding, right?

Christmas...birth of SANTA CLAUS? You're a kidder, aren't you? Haha.

I'm sorry, my bad. I thought Christmas was a celebration of the birth of Christ.

I don't celebrate the religious aspect of christmas at all...but I do like to get together with family and friends...exchange gifts and socialize.
