She's not that small and she looks quite well kept, not starved, so I'm not sure whether she has an owner or not. I gave her food and she wolfed it down, but she doesn't look thin.
She's been around the house for about a week now, but sometimes she disappears for a day or two, so I can't figure out whether she is a stray or just an outside cat who likes to wander.
Should I take her in? I don't want to steal a cat from somebody if she is already owned. Besides, I already have a 2 year old neutered male cat.

If you want the kitten, you can take her. If she is a stray she may be poisoned,or just taken to the pound and put down. The same goes if she is owned but the owners are irresponsible and let her stray. Your male cat may not like her at first, but usually they get to be friends. And you can put up some flyers with her photo and your phone, so that the owner can contact you if they exist. Or you could put a tag on her with your phone, and the owners will call you if she goes to them with it, but be careful, you need to use a very wide elastic collar, because if you lose her and she grows up with a small collar, she will be suffocated. I wouldn't do the collar thing for now.

You need to get kitten formula from Wal-mart or your vets office to feed him. You may have to use an eye-dropper and give him small amounts at a time. He will need to eat about every 3 hours, even through the night if he is very young. Keep him nice and warm. A shoe-box works well with a heating pad underneath a towel to lay him on. No need for shots until he is about 6 weeks old, then he will need to be wormed also.He should starting eating soft kitten food at about 4 weeks old. I have raised many kittens some as young as 2 weeks old. Wouldn't hurt to look for other siblings in the area that may have wondered away from mom.

You go get that kitten immediately. Take her in and then advertise for a lost kitten. Your male cat will probably not have much of a problem with a female, as she's small enough for him to still be dominant.
Besides, what would Freja say?

Take time to post signs in your area about a found kitten. It is possilbe that the kitten wandered away from home and is unable to retrieve her steps. Contact your local shelter to see if anyone has reported a missing kitten. Once all of these steps have been done and there has not been anyone come forward, then I would say welcome the kitten into your home.

Put some ads around you're neighborhood and if no one calls in a month take the cat to the shelter or keep her

I'm going to agree with Mir. A collar with a note is probably the best idea.

Maybe you can put a collar on her with a note "who's cat is this ? "with your number. If she has an owner they will see the note, if not you know it's a stray.
The animal shelter adviced me this once when I thought I found a stray cat.

Take her in. The cat does not "belong" to anyone if she is allowed to wander around outside like a wild animal. Having 2 cats wont be any different that having one.

I would suggest keeping her inside to keep anything bad from happening to her. I would also place flyers around the neighborhood, if someone is missing her, they will contact you. You can also place a "found" ad in your local paper (it should be free to do so). If you do not hear from anyone within about 30 days, consider her abandoned and keep her if that is your desire.
Good Luck.

Nop.....If you take it....and it has an owner then the owner will probably get upset or worried and nobody wants that to happen. If it keeps coming to your house then you should just give it food....nothing is wrong with that...as long as your other cat isn't jealous with that...hehe.
