I am waiting to go to MEPS to sign my contract (Future Soldier) or whatever, and I fully endorse Ron Paul. I will also be 23 years old next Monday if that makes a difference.

Please explain for or against. I have only been interested in politics since I've been 17 and am aware that I still have a lot to learn.

I'm against Ron Paul. I think he's nuttier than a fruitcake.

I'm a retired soldier, I would vote for Ron Paul only if he is the Republican nominee. I hope he isn't. His isolationist views are very short sighted and could lead to disaster. He is the kind of guy that would have voted for the Smoot Hawley Act.
I support John McCain. We are at war and need a proven warrior at the helm. John McCain is the best.

I'm against Ron Paul. His ideas of pulling all of our troops back to the US would greatly weaken us in the world. It would greatly decrease the strategic advantages that we have over any enemies. I don't think his economic ideas are very sound although I honestly have paid no attention to them because I think foreign policy is the most important issue to vote on in this election. Isolationism failed prior to world war 2 and the world is so much more globalized now that we cannot ever afford to take such an approach again.

As a vet and someone who leans to the libertarian (with a lower case L) side of things, I am torn between Ron Paul, who is a crazy right winger, and Kucinich, who is a crazy lefty. The biggest issue for me is the rape of civil liberties by the USA Patriot Act, among others. I don't believe that isolationism is the answer, but isn't anyone else completely sick of the domination of the American political system by the GOP and Dems? The rest of the candidates (on both sides) range from slimy (Clinton) to downright evil (Guilliani). Nor do I want some crazy evangelist fundy (Huckabee, Thompson) to tell people what they can do in their bedrooms. I like McCain, but he has been too intractable in his position on the war.

Ron Paul's isolationist and libertarian views are more akin to the views of the founding fathers.
He wants to bring all our troops home, put them on the border and let the rest of the world go to hell. One big problem: In 1790, that was a viable strategy. It was a 2 month long boat ride for an enemy to attack us. 10,000 miles of oceans don't protect us anymore. An enemy advanced enough could push a button and kill 200,000 Americans in the span of 30 minutes. Also, like it or not, our economy, our standard of living, and even our food supply is dependent on foreign oil. We stick our noses into Middle East politics for that reason, we depend on the free flow of that oil on the open market. If it stops flowing, our economy will collapse. There is so much more to oil than gassing up your car. Farm equipment needs it to grow your food, factories need it to process your food, trucks need it to bring it to you. As the price of oil goes up, the price of EVERYTHING you buy goes up with it.

I like Ron Paul's (and the libertarian) views on strong civil liberties. I disagree with the economic. Totally unregulated capital is what allows corporate control of government thru BIG money.

I'll vote Dem this time and hope to get some of the 4th Amendment back.

Retired Navy here and an independent voter in Texas.

If someone stuck a gun to my head and said I must vote for a Republican, I'd vote for Dr. Paul without hesitation.

That said, I send my political contributions to Kucinich and Gravel.

If it was a match-up of Hillary Clinton versus Dr. Paul, I'd vote for Dr. Paul because ending the illegal war is that big of an issue for me.

The things I don't care for about Dr. Paul will be constrained by Congress and the Courts.

Of course -- Dr. Paul doesn't have a snowballs chance...

I am an Army vet. I am also conservative. I will not vote for Ron Paul. He does not speak for the main stream in the GOP.

Who cares? No matter who is elected, that person is just going to conform to the status quo of politics. He or she is going to say what they think people want to hear and disagree with the other party, no matter what they really think. It's unfortunate that things are this way.
