A friend has gone into hospital with internal bleeding, I was just wondering if anyone knew what the operation would involve? If anyone has had an operation for it? And how long they stayed in hospital after it? Thanks

or where.Anywho, they usually enter the area and search for the cause and repair it. depending on the severity of the source, 3-5 days. Check with the Doctor. Better yet a nurse on your friends condition. Doctors are in the spotlite. But, the

If the injury is only to the leg such as you describe, then it could be hypovolemic shock or a vagal reaction from pain. When the patient came in, they would insert several large bore IV's and commence aggressive hydration. If the pressure dropped, they would again give large boluses of fluids to see. They would not just cut the person open. With the new angiographic techniques, they would inject contrast into the arteries and look at those in and around the area of the obvious injury to make sure there are no other blood vessels injured. IF found, they would either block them off or go to surgery to repair them.

It is really hard to tell the length of time and operation unless it is known which organ is bleeding internally...

The only for sure thing that I can tell you is that if the bleeding is bad enough your friend will have to have a blood transfusion...
