Christians always like to say that atheists can't prove the non-existance of God. Athiests duly reply that there is no way to prove the Judaic Christian god is in fact THE God, and that god, according to their beliefs, could be the Queen of Sheba, Thatcher, or a satanic teapot orbiting somewhere in the Pleiades star cluster.

There are no (absolute) proofs for, or against, the existence of God.

Proof is a tricky word. Many people think that proof establishes something is an absolute fact. That's not often the case; at least, not in the everyday world.

In jurisprudence and science, a reasonable basis for proof is based on solid evidence and the absence of any known contradiction. There's a "reasonable person" standard which defines proof as "beyond a reasonable doubt". The test of time fortifies proofs.

You say there are no unicorns? Prove it. You see? ABSOLUTE proof is an illusion -- especially when trying to prove a negative, such as "There is no God".

However, rephrasing the assertion from "There is no God", to "God is imaginary", makes proof easier, using the "reasonable person" standard. We can't ABSOLUTELY prove it but we can prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.

Consider this . . .

No matter where man has spread, he as created countless gods. From aboriginal Australians to tribal Africans to American Indians to ancient Egyptians . . . they've all created gods prolifically and with ease. That man creates gods is a well-known, indisputable fact.

But what about the opposite? God creating man? We DON'T know that he did. We have no evidence that he did. We have no reason to think that he did. All the evidence points to evolution over the course of billions of years. There's growing evidence that life originated from abiogenesis -- from an electro-chemical reaction in the primordial soup of early Earth.

So, with countless thousands of gods to man's credit, believers are in the untenable position of asserting that all the gods that came before and after theirs are false . . . but their own god (and religion) is real and true. Asserting that one's own god is real, when we know that man created all the others, is ridiculous. It is so unlikely that we can safely consider it delusional.

Man has created countless thousands of gods and YOURS (if you believe) has NO evidence. That, my friend, qualifies God’s existence as dubious, at best, and faith in him as misguided and misplaced. Based upon the preponderance of evidence, the assertion that "God is imaginary" meets the reasonable person standard for proof and has withstood the test of time for thousands of years.

The existance of God can not be "proven", because no matter how much evidence you have to support your belief, the choice is that of the individual. Trying to prove the existance of God is like trying to proove why McDonalds is better than Burger King. You may have a million reasons for your case, but a person's convictions are what make humans so unique. In the end the arguments and hatred spent on which religion is right and which is wrong is just a sad lack of having an open mind.

If you adopt a scientific approach to the question of god's existence rather than rely on faith which is the same as saying
'I imagine it to be so therefore it is' , you would put forward the hypotheses that god is perfect, all powerful, all knowing, all loving, merciful and just. You would then go about testing the validity of each of these claims. Perfect? He stuffed up the Creation of mankind and had to destroy his first attempt with a flood. He stuffed up with Lucifer, If a supernatural being is alleged to be perfect then it is incapable of error and if creating the Mozzie to kill millions of Innocent children each year is an example of love and mercy then I say throw god onto the great compost heap in Heaven where all the redundant gods of antiquity are rotting away.

There is no way to prove or disprove the existence of God. Either you get it or you don't: you are interested in whether or not God exists, or you don't care. Faith is a leap into the trans-rational: so is non-faith. I believe in the Judeo-Christian God, but not because God's existence can be proven. I am a Catholic Christian because I need to be: without God and the Church I would find it hard to exist.

No, God can't be proven.

And I think the "Judaic Christian" God is only a small glimpse of what God really is.

Richard Dawkins said that if there is a God, He is bigger than our minds can imagine. And I think he's right. Who knew a Christian could agree with Richard Dawkins?

"Athiests duly reply that there is no way to prove the Judaic Christian god..."

That would make them agnostics, not atheists. Proof comes through faith. God said He would reveal Himself to whomever is truely seeking Him.

If you want to make an attempt to prove or disprove a god, you need to DEFINE your god first. A logical proof can only be founded on a complete definition.

For example, if you define your god as "omniscient, omnipresent, all-benevolent, all-powerful creator of the world" it is rather easy to point out contradictions within this definition and contradictions with reality, so that a such defined god can indeed be disproved. But an undefined god cannot either be proved or disproved.

The lack of evidence, or our inability to prove the existence of something. does not nullify it's existence.

In the case of God let the Atheists continue in their disbelief and the Christians continue in their belief.

Lets all be brave and place our bets and let God sort it out in the end. Let each take their own consequences.

Please, less bleating on both sides of the divide.

I am a Christian but I cannot prove God's existence with a scientific study. It takes reading the Bible, and pray which will lead to faith in God.

If you believe the Bible, there are many scriptures to proove the existance of God. Psalms19:1 "The heavens are declaring the glory of God; And of the work of his hands the expanse is telling." Psalms. 104:24 "How many your works are, O Jehovah! All of them in wisdom you have made.
The earth is full of your productions." Romans 1:20 "For his invisible [qualities] are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable;"
Don't believe the Bible, then do you believe in science and scientists. Dr. Warner von Braun, who had much to do with sending American austronauts to the moon, said; "the natural laws of the universe are so precise that we have no difficulty building a spaceship to fly to the moon and can time the flight with the precisiion of a fraction of a second. These laws must have been set by somebody. New Scientist magazine said: “The lay view persists—of scientists having ‘disproved’ religion. It is a view that commonly expects scientists to be nonbelievers; that Darwin put the last nails in God’s coffin; and that a succession of scientific and technological innovations since have ruled out the possibility of any resurrection. It is a view that is wildly wrong.”—May 26, 1977, p. 478.
A member of the French Academy of Sciences stated: “Natural order was not invented by the human mind or set up by certain perceptive powers. . . . The existence of order presupposes the existence of organizing intelligence. Such intelligence can be none other than God’s.”—Dieu existe? Oui (Paris, 1979), Christian Chabanis, quoting Pierre-Paul Grassé, p. 94.
Scientists have identified over 100 chemical elements. Their atomic structure displays an intricate mathematical interrelationship of the elements. The periodic table points to obvious design. Such amazing design could not possibly be accidental, a product of chance.
Illustration: When we see a camera, a radio, or a computer, we readily acknowledge that it must have been produced by an intelligent designer. Would it:be reasonable, then to say that far more complex things, the eye, the ear, and the human brain - did not originate with an intelligent designer? Take the human brain for example. Modern computers are a product of intensive research and careful engineering. They did not “just happen.” What about the human brain? Unlike the brain of any animal, the brain of a human infant triples in size during its first year. How it functions is still largely a mystery to scientists. In humans, there is the built-in capacity to learn complex languages, to appreciate beauty, to compose music, to contemplate the origin and meaning of life. Said brain surgeon Robert White: “I am left with no choice but to acknowledge the existence of a Superior Intellect, responsible for the design and development of the incredible brain-mind relationship—something far beyond man’s capacity to understand.” (The Reader’s Digest, September 1978, p. 99) The development of this marvel begins from a tiny fertilized cell in the womb. With remarkable insight, the Bible writer David said to Jehovah: “I shall laud you because in a fear-inspiring way I am wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, as my soul is very well aware.”—Ps. 139:14.
How about the cells in our bodies. A single living cell is sometimes referred to as being a “simple” form of life. But a one-celled animal can catch food, digest it, get rid of wastes, build a house for itself and engage in sexual activity. Each cell of the human body has been likened to a walled city, with a central government to maintain order, a power plant to generate energy, factories to produce proteins, a complex transportation system, and guards to regulate what is permitted to enter. And a single human body is made up of as many as 100 trillion cells. How appropriate the words of Psalm 104:24: “How many your works are, O Jehovah! All of them in wisdom you have made”!
This is just a sample of the evedience I have found to proove the existance of God. If you need more please let me know.
