I have heard of male cats having a problem with urinary tract infections. My cat is fed only dry food, NO MOIST AT ALL!

You do not feed a cat urinary tract food to PREVENT problems. That food is used when an imbalance in the pH of the cat's urine is determined by uranalysis to be too alkaline. The food will acidify the cat's urine. If the balance is already correct it can cause the pH to go in the other direction and make the pH too acidic and result in the formation of urinary stones. Stones frequently can only be corrected by surgical removal.

Actually, the best foods to feed are canned foods or proper raw diets. Dry foods dehydrate cats and can lead to urinary issues.

Also, many times issues are diagnosed as urinary tract infection when in fact there is no infection present.

I'd feed him a high quality food. I personally like Blue Buffalo. Urinary Tract food (Hill's and Purina both make a prescription form of the food) is usually only sold by a licensed Vet and given to you only after your cat has had urinary tract problems.

Dry or moist, use a good brand which says that it adjusts urinary PH, usually they have a little sign on them saying "maintains urinary tract health" or sth., but don't use special urinary formula if he doesn't have a problem already. And make sure he drinks enough water, or give him a meal of moist food among the dry food meals.

If your cat does not have urinary tract infection or problems you shouldnt be feeding him food with medication type stuff in it he doesnt need, that could result in making him sick... feed him food that has all the vitamins he needs in it and not just some cheap store brand crap, and yes holistic food is really good for them..... one brand i have heard is really good is the chicken soup for the cats soul.... look up holistic foods online, they cost a pretty penny, but they are def worth it in keeping your cat very healthy for a long time, and they dont have all that dangerous junk in them that the other store brands do

A well balanced raw diet will prevent any urinary issues.

Urinary diets have acidifiers added to them. Feeding that to a cat with a normal pH, could lead to calcium oxalate stomes which would have to be surgically removed.

As long as he's normal, healthy, & not lethargic, then I would continue 2 feed him the same food u have been on a regular basis. There is no need 2 go in a health frenzy if your cat is already healthy.

Please try a holistic (all natural with NO GRAIN - leading cause of allergies in pets, fillers - what tends to cause the uri problems, additives, preservatives, and based on their WILD diet!) food, such as Innova Evo, Orijen or anything similar.

DO NOT get anything from a pet store such as Petco or Petsmart - even if they CLAIM they're holistic and grain free! THEY LIE about it just to sell their products, and I've done some research that shows that they don't even sell these things!

Look for a local pet food retailer...call them up and see if they sell holistic pet food. If they do, ask if they sell Innova Evo. If they sell that, then you can bank on them selling the right foods that I'm talking about.

I feed my bengal cats Innova Evo, and they're VERY healthy, no uri problems, and they're thriving with less illnesses and incidents of illness!

Feeding them the right diet not only keeps them looking good, but the RIGHT diet helps to keep them from even getting ill in the first place! ESPECIALLY with all of the melamine and toxins in pet food causing kidney failure and death in cats!

There is no such thing as "urinary tract food".

You should feed your cat good cat food.
UTI's are not caused by eating moist food.

Dry food is better as it can't go bad while in the dish waiting for the cat to come eat.

It's always best to consult with your vet first. The higher acid count in vet-based formulas drastically cut down on infections in male cats.
