Well, Faith, you're right about what you're saying but why can't you choose from the four books?

I'm so sorry, Kylie, I hope God is blessing you through your reading, and thanks for answering.

Matthew, it is the first book of the New Testament and I find it transitions the OT to the NT.

Wow, reviewing some of the postings here it appears some folks can't take direction, their mamas never taught them "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.", and they are reflecting badly on their fellow adherents.

I have been camping out on John for quite some time now. I suppose I can say that it is my favorite Gospel.

It has everything in it that I need. I can get through it the fact that Jesus IS God. That's at the very beginning of the Book. I can also see that Jesus is loving to those He makes a connection with, and rails against those who reject Him. John shows Jesus in a temple with a part of the population who followed his disciples clear across the Sea of Galilee, and says things to cause them to walk away willingly - after they followed him just to learn how to feed themselves for free.

That's the Jesus that I understand. He in that same chapter
( John 6 ) , tells those people the same thing I have been telling people for the past month - that God does not want everybody. He did that here:

43 "Stop grumbling among yourselves," Jesus answered.
44 "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets: 'They will all be taught by God.'

They were offended by him saying that if they ate him and drank him they would gain eternal life. Jesus did not teach them about communion, he was trying to get them to walk away from Him. He had been on to them since in Tiberias, when he perceived that they wanted to force Him to be king. So he ditched them there.

Now what I am saying isn't the typical way Christians talk about Jesus, but that's what makes me being a Christian and understanding him even more special - He has raised me to see things that others are just too traditional to see. I have no traditional boundaries, and so I am willing to accept these things readily.

Aww.. why Christians only? Do you think only Christians can appreciate a holy text?

My favorite gospel of the four was Matthew, because it focused much more on the actual life and humanity of Jesus. I think what makes him such an amazing person (I consider him a prophet, but I realize you consider him the son of God.. either way, this applies) is how human he could be. I think the other books gloss over that and focus a bit too much on his "divine" side.. what made him special was that he was both.

By the way, I DO mean this as a serious answer, and am in no way trying to mock your question!

The book of John.
The primary reason: Of the four, it shows the best way to salvation. While many people us the Roman road to salvation, you can easily (or easier) lead a person to Jesus through the book of John.
While the synoptic Gospels had a particular audience, John was written to all believers and to those who don't know, but can know who Jesus is.
"These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." (20:31)

I like John, I think it the first chapter that I enjoy the most. John emphasizes the fact that Jesus is the eternal Son of God and and reading the Book helps me build my faith.

John, because it's distinct from the other three gospels and contains much theological content in regard to the person of Christ and the meaning of faith. matthew, mark, and luke are often referred to as the "synoptic gospels" because of their similar styles and content, and because they give a synopsis of the life of Christ. the gospel of john begins not with Jesus' birth or earthly ministry but with the activity and characteristics of the son of God before his becoming man

That's a tough one. Luke is well documented by eyewitnesses and John has a deeper philosophical and spiritual sense. I would say John it drives home the Holy Spirit passages the best.

Gospel of John, cause it is the most crictisied and cross examined book

Personally I like Romans because it's all about how to treat people. Not being judgemental and all around how to be a good christian. Sorry....Out of the 4 you asked about Mark, because I like the parables in that book.

Luke. It is my favourite because the stories are told in a better way than the other synoptics
