Most belief systems rely on fear -- fear of death, fear of damnation, fear of the afterlife, fear of prosecution, fear of the Inquisition, fear of a vengeful god...

Critical thinking and reasoned examination of these religions ultimately show their flaws and lead to rational folks jumping off the god train.

So yes... religion is a crutch for the weak and fearful and I am not surprised that such folk would be afraid to even spell the word used to denote their false idol.
