I don't think that is rude at all... just say in the note "I work the night shift, and sleep until about 11, if you could please come back, any time after 11am, it would be greatly appreciated"

I guess it's the right thing to do, to leave a note on your door informing the super that you wouldn't be awake at the time he/she makes the inspection. Better that than to keep her waiting or standing by the door not knowing whether you're in or out. That would surely make her mad.

Maybe "rude" is not the correct word. The landlord has the right to come in an inspect the property and, has sent advance notice of doing so. If you need to sleep, simply sleep. Let them do their inspection. When they walk in to your room and see you sleeping, they should be graceful and be quiet so you can get your rest.
I wouldn't leave a note though. That would only make it seem that you have something to hide and make them want to come inside your apartment all the more quicker.

No, its not rude, in fact you have every right to do so. Also the super should not be able to use his key without your permmision or a signed warrant. However, your super may be rude and ignore your note and decide that it isn't worth coming back later in the day and knock anyway...

Do it! You pay the rent, and that's not much to ask. Leave your phone # if it is a real problem for him he can call. But most would go along with a couple of hours delay for your apartment, especially if there were others to inspect.

It wouldn't be rude, but it's your own stupid fault you're up.
It wouldn't be rude of him to go ahead and knock on the door either.
Put the note up, but don't come back here whining about how "rude" he was if he wakes you up anyway.
He gave you notice, you should have gone to bed.

That's not rude at all. But he may have a key and enter the premises anyway while you're sound asleep. If the property's in good order you have nothing to worry about. Sweet dreams.

No, it's not rude. I am a day sleeper and I am always having to request a later or earlier appointment-no one ever seems offended.

I don't think so.....I work night shift too, and I know how hard it can be to try to sleep in the daytime.....it's like some people just can't grasp the concept of night workers....
