Like others said, the first day people start putting on is 1 sept. With line number 1.
There is no reset number per month, but MPF and virtual MPF posts the upcoming months promotion numbers about 15 days in advance. For december they promoted through line number 4, 995 (or around that number).
By august 1 2008, everyone from this promotion cycle will have promoted.

There is no such thing as bad line number! 1) you got promoted.....not everybody did....don't remember what the selection rate was for SSgt but I know it wasn't 100% and 2) a high line number means that you have worked hard, got good EPRs etc instead of waiting for time in grade (TIG) and time in service (TIS) to pull you up. You pat yourself on the back.

SSGT promotions are from 1 September to 1 August.

So you could have to wait untill August 1st 2008 to pin on your new rank.

Evidently the AF has changed the SSGT promotion system since i got out.

They used to have two promotion zones every year, from Janurary to June, and from July to December.

The line numbers start incrementing 1 September. They promote every 1st of the month until August, so 1 August is the latest...if you behave :)

Take the total # of selectees and divide by 12, and you can use that to ROUGHLY figure out how many folks will pin on a month...and when your line number is likely to increment.

Congratulations and welcome to the NCO Corps!

MSgt, USAF (Ret)

P.S. There's no such thing as a bad line number. I'd rather be the last line number of this cycle than line #1 on the next. A large line # is something to be proud of, as it shows you didn't take forever to be promoted.

Generally month 11 or 12 is "all others". Check for the last few months how many have been promoted each month. Then take that average and keep adding out until you hit the month with your line number. Depending on how bad, you're probably looking at June or July.
I know it stinks to wait, hubby has been "all others" twice. But, you made the rank and that's the most important thing!! Congrats!!

If you got the official go-ahead from your squadron commander, then go ahead and pin on. Congratulations. :)
