this guy i work with in a restaurant, called the gm this morning and said , hey because its tuesday and not too many people come in, can i have the day off?? the gm said he never heard anything like that before. is there something wrong with this guy

no, he wants the day off,and he tried to pick a slow day to take one... whether he got the day off or not, was up to your manager.

Neither, he is wanting to save himself for the busy days and save the company money. However, going over the managers head wasn't kosher. Most restaurants always need cleaning, perhaps if you are the manager, you could find some cleaning for him to do? Light fixtures, chairs, or the bottoms of tables are always in need of cleaning.

he probably has his own valid reasons. he might have some errands to make, or some event he needs to attend to or a problem he needs to give solution to. don't judge too quickly. know his reasons first. ^_^
