I understand where you are coming from, but you can cannot force anyone to do something with their body that they don't want to do. If that was possible, rapists would have something of their own removed.
On the other hand, if they continue to abuse it by having more kids, it can always be revoked. Welfare was designed to help the needy, not the greedy.

Thats an old question you are running around. But from the answers it has recieved, I think you should look at both sides. Many people assume that to be on welfare is a horrible crime in and of itself. It isn't. Its a hard hit to the pride. You put your children first, though. And if I am ever in a situation where I cannot provide and need assistance for my child, I will do it. I was a stay at home mom for a while, and loved it. But not every single mom or unmarried couple with children is a 'welfare mom'. I really hate that term. The question is extreme. So, should we spay and neuter all the homeless? Hey, and the mentally ill too? Oh, and how about those with birth defects? Surely those, right, because they should all have birth control already and they could contribute to medical charity case problems society must help. So, who says all single moms are on welfare or that all they want is more money, and so have more kids? A person can only be on welfare 60 months of a lifetime, I believe, and the total monthly income is not that high.

Its none of the governments business with what people do and if they want to take birth control or not. Maybe you were borin in middle class suburbia and have had the resources that weren't offered to them.
People like to think that the American Dream is real. Guess what we aren't doing anything to help the less fortunate. The programs that were in place were cut. Welfare only lasts for a certain period of time becuase the rich thought that if they stayed on it for too long they'd get a lot of money and they just couldn't have had that.
What do you think they should do if they've had a child and can barely support them with welfare? What do you suppose that they do? Stop getting money and starve on the street?
The reason why the welfare program don't work is becuase there's not enough money in the first place for them so they can save at least a little bit of the money for other things like oh I don't know education. Being able to get health care, being able to get out of the circle of poverty. Ever wonder why the rich get richer and the poor keep getting poorer?

You have some miconseptions. One welfare is not as much as you think. When welfare reform happned in the 90's they cut the amount of time you can be on it to 5yrs in your entire life and the amount way down. It is not enough to support a house hold. I am not sure of the exact numbers but is it is like 3 to 4 hundred a month four a family of four. You can get food stamps as long as you qualify forever but you have to work or be in college. If no you have to be activley looking for work and go to their job training seminars.
Some of the women you see also recieve child support for their kids and that is what they live off of to pay thier bills.
Now to your question The great thing and bad thing about this country we can not be forced to do very much. So I know you are disgusted but doing that leads down a slippery slope to no freedom

no it's not right, but it happens anyway, and these stay at home moms who collect welfare from the government aren't the life of the party either! many of them have issues, CAN'T work... perhaps because they are slow or uneducated.
be thankful you have the advantage of good mental health and some smarts.
i believe it's against a person's civil liberties to be told they have to take birth control? otherwise, the gov't might have already tried that tactic.
on the flipside of the coin, there are some people who have dire circumstances and need the system for help.... perhaps they lost a job or were injured and can't take care of their families....
yes taxes pay for a lot of government assistance, and these particular people have already been paying into the system, so if they need help nothing wrong with it.
i also think that the government programs (like daycare and food assistance) for low income people is a wonderful thing.. THESE PEOPLE are also paying taxes.

I agree and disagree. It's not the government's job to negotiate our fertility. It just is a place where they have no place. Plus, how would they enforce this? Would they make all the woman come down to the office everyday to take a pill? Even if they could figure that part out, women DO get pregnant on birth contol so what would happen to the children born to welfare-mothers who are on birth control?
There are just too many factors into forcing people to be on birth control and while it seems like a quick fix when you really think about it MORE tax payer dollars would be spent just to control the issue at hand.
Our government assistance programs have many, many, many problems that are slowly but surely being worked out. For many struggling single mothers if they get a raise--the government assistance drops. Which seems like a good thing, right? Wrong! That makes it impossible for them to ever get ahead. People can get whatever food they like on food stamps. That bothers me. Parents can feed their kids junk and it's my money. We need to make food stamps more like WIC. There are certain food items you can buy and certain items you can't.
What it comes down to is we need to make the government assistance actually HELP people instead of keeping them down. There's a lot to be done but I do not think for one second mothers who are on welfare would be benefited from getting birth control shots.

I agree with you 100% Theres a big difference between using the system and abusing the system. Granted not all people on welfare are trashy and take adavantage but a good portion do. For example my one friend got pregnant at 17- her parents kicked her out, her boyfriend of 3 years was pretty much like the kids your problem not mine, and she had no job. She worked all 9 months of her pregnancy to save money and then when the baby was born went on welfare for 5 months until she could finish getting back on her feet. In my opinion thats ok but then I know a woman who has 5 kids to 4 different men, no job (and no desire to get a job), no education, and no money. She fully admits that she gets pregnant because thats more money from the government. She actually calls the day her checks come in the mail "payday"-As if thats not bad enough she then turns the kids over to foster care because she "can't deal".... rediculous
And to deasmenc you are an idiot- if I have a job then welfare witches do affect me because my hard earned money is being taken out of my paycheck to pay for their lazy asses. I'd be willing to bet you are welfare

I agree and disagree at the same time. I dont agree with woman who are on welfare, have a child, and then another. Thats not right. BUT, i disagree with you tax payers supporting them. Me and my husband got pregnant. And he has a 9 year old daughter.I was 7 months pregnant when my husband fractured his skull and broke his collarbone. He was off work for 6 months. I have been off since the baby. We had no choice but to get government help. And I worked 8-10 hours a day everyday with 1 break, on my feet all day long, until my water ruptured, at work. I worked my butt off and payed well into it. We didnt have a choice, he had a fractured skull and broken collarbone. And now my son is 5 months old. And hes back to work, working 70 hours a week doing construction. At the time we couldnt support our family,so we had to get government aid, but now we can. Things happen, like my situation. And the both of us work our butts off. So we didnt just sit around collecting money. You cant judge situations like that. People have hard times, accidents happen, but it what you do to get back on your feet that matters. But I completely agree that woman having more than one child, and on welfare, isnt right. Unless, its a situation where something bad had happend, and they had no choice. And you shouldnt judge, because you dont really know the story or what happend. But if they have one child, and are on welfare. and then they have more, thats just wrong. We would still be paying for those shots though, so either, we're going to have to pay.

Yes I do. I have been a single mom on welfare. I had one child b/c I couldn't afford the one child. I know other women who sit around and pop babies out like nothing while living on welfare capable of working but refusing to do so. I also think everyone on welfare should be drug tested. People get drug tested for jobs but not to sit around and do nothing all day. I know the welfare has programs to train people to work and what not but not everyone does it, I also know not everyone can work(which was my problem I have a severe anxiety issue and was housebound for 3yrs.) but no where in the Constitution does it say we have the right to reproduce all willy nilly and let someone else foot the bill.

Not even criminals are forced to use birth control since it is considered inhumane to deny this "right". If you were arguing that repeat child abusers should be forcibly sterilized, I would agree with you. But I don't see it as a crime to live off of welfare if you and your children need it. The system needs reform, but not in that way.
For what its worth, many people on government assistence do have jobs, but they may not make enough to support their families. It's called the "working poor". In my state, the government will help with childcare costs if you have a low paying job, but they do not help if you are in school trying to make yourself a better person so you can have a higher paying job. So good luck trying to get out of the system once you find yourself in that position!

All I have to say is, good for you.
Some people need help though...not every welfare mother gets pregnant all the time.
So basically, you have a problem with welfare because you are jealous of single mothers on welfare who have to stay at home because they have nobody else to take care of their kids? Do you realize what you sound like right now?
Personally, I've never met a person who was on welfare that WASNT working or trying to make their life better. My best friends mother was on welfare when we were little and she did everything in her power to try and make her daugthers life better. Maybe you should get over yourself or start a program to assist welfare mothers in getting decent jobs so they can get off of welfare...there's a thought for you.
Its not like if welfare was demolished we would have to pay any less taxes. People like you disgust me. You are willing to take but never willing to give.
I understand that people abuse the program...but they obviously need it because they are either A) Too stupid to get a job or B) Nobody wants to hire them because they are dishonest and worthless. Be happy that you can set a good example for your children. Be happy that will grow up knowing that you worked your butt off so they could have a good life. Like I said though, not everybody on welfare is a horrible person, you're making it sound like all people on welfare are POS and that just isn't true at all.
Quit being selfish and obnoxious...
