There are several powerful Mantras which are equally powerful. I will give few. 1. Gayatri Mantra2 . Hare Rama Hare rama rama rama hare hare. 3 Jai Sri Ram . Om Kleem Krishna ya namaha. Om Nomo Vasudevaya 5. Om Nomo Narayanay.6 Lastly Vishnu sahasranama. You can choose any one of them and they are equally powerful and potent.

However Lord Krishna ( who is the only avatar carryingall the bhava's of paramathama ) himself to Arjuna that it would be very difficult to follow the all the yogas in this Kaliyuga including Mantra yoga.

Hence he suggests that just calling the name of lord itself becomes a powerful mantra in this Kaliyuga.

But as per vedanta Pranava mantra aum / om / omkara is the utmost mantra which is used before and after a mantra. Without this no mantra would have any effect.

However lord while explaining to Yagnya Valkya Muni he gives the seven stop path to reach while reaching Gayantri Mantra along with pranava and Vyahrithi.

Hence enchanting this mantra is very powerful in this yuga.

I don't think there is one answer. The most powerful mantra is one that has been imparted to you by a guru. If you don't have a guru then a mantra from your lineage, such as Aum Namah Shivaya for Shaivites or the "Hare Krishna" mantra for vishnavites. It is advised that people don't start with the most powerful mantras. The Himalayan Academy Master course advises: "If you say, "Aum Namah Sivaya," are you ready to see what Siva will show you, once He comes and lifts the veils? Maybe a little preparation -- cleaning a few things, straightening up the house, the subconscious basement -- is in order first. If you say, "Aum Sharavanabhava," is your mind really ready to become peaceful, or is it disturbed by fits of anger? But every soul is ready to say, "Aum," and come to the feet of the Lord of Categories, who will set everything in order from the many yesterdays. ..... For the non-Hindu who has not made a commitment, the universal mantra Aum is the most significant and precious of all mantras. This can be chanted by those of all religions, without restriction. "
