that's a carbine, that's a protracted gun, so in fact everywhere in the U. S. the age is eighteen. so which you may desire to be good right here. that's the configuration of the firearm no longer the cartridge that separates long weapons from hand weapons. Or a carbine in a handgun cartridge continues to be a carbine, and a handgun in a rifle cartridge continues to be a handgun. As others have spoke of, paying for ammo could be a undertaking. i've got faith that somebody between 18 and 21 can legally purchase handgun ammo despite if that's to be utilized in a carbine, in spite of the undeniable fact that many shops will nevertheless refuse to sell for legal accountability motives or sometimes lack of expertise of the regulation. you may desire to have the skill to purchase some ammo whilst determining on up your rifle, as that's of course going for use for that purpose. apart from that optimistically your FFL is a small interior sight place that's common with you, considering the fact which you will no longer have the skill to purchase it from a large field save. you may choose a discern to purchase your ammo for some years.

I have a pistol caliber carbine, and despite the fact that it is illegal to sell pistol ammo to someone under 21, the law never says specifically what is pistol ammo and what is rifle ammo. It's entirely reasonable to purchase a box of 9mm Luger for a carbine as rifle ammo, just find a good shop. I've done it before in New York, and I'm not under 21, but I don't have my pistol permit here yet, I haven't lived here long enough. It's illegal to purchase pistol ammo without a permit. But it's 9mm Luger 'rifle' ammo, so nobody's said a thing.

Yes. You can even have a pistol that shoots pistol ammo and a rifle that shoots rifle ammo.

By the way, you don't have to be 21 to OWN a handgun. You just have to be 21 to buy one from a licensed dealer.

Most anywhere in the USA you have to be 21 to own a pistol. This is due to its limited usage and the ability of the user to easily hide it and cause mayhem. Again, most everywhere you can buy a long gun (rifle, carbine, shotgun) regardless of caliber at 18. I gave my 14 year old nephew a .44 Magnum rifle for his first deer rifle.

Best.
