I can only get 1 handgun and it will only be for target shooting and range purposes.I have shot both guns but I cannot make up my mind. I like the XD better but the glock 34 has longer sight radius and it uses a polygonal barrel. I need your opinions. the cost difference is less than 100 bucks. I dont want to make the wrong decision. which one do you guys like? thanks in advanced

I would go with the XD, they fit my hand better and have better safeties than GLOCK. They also have a loaded chamber indicator which can come in handy. I have used the 4in. 9mm ported model and the 5in. .45, and they are excellent guns. Anybody that says GLOCKs are better has never extensively used the XDs.

I am with Big D on this one....

I prefer the Springfield XD over Glocks. I think the XD is an all around better gun. The XD is just as reliable as the Glocks are but the XD has 3 other safeties that Glocks do not have. Both us the USA trigger safety (which I do not think is a true safety), but the XD has the grip safety (like a 1911), a striker status indicator (on back of slide) that you can visually see if the striker is in the ready to fire position, and the load indicator (on top of slide) that will visually tell you if you have a live round in the chamber.
I also like the ergonomics of the XD. It has a natural point that I do not see in Glocks, the grip is a little smaller so my hand fits better (even for the full size Tactical Models). The XD is also a little heavier so less recoil. The sights are better and easier on my eyes.

Well this is very much a Ford/Chevy type of debate. They are both very good, and it makes me glad I have choices! (I'm a FORD guy LOL)
It sounds like you answered your own question. If you like the XD better, buy that one! Don't let someone elses likes become your own. I have shot the XD's and the Glocks, and for me, the Glock works fine. I know where you are coming from, 'cause I put myself in these situations often (too often for the wife!!)
They are both quite popular and have crowds of followers, and crowds of haters. Both are proven performers, so I don't think you would loose either way.

Good Luck-Join the NRA if you haven't already!! :)

I would opt for the Glock, because the Glocks have been tested in battle, and have survied endurance tests which I don't think the Springfield Armory ever went through. Some Glock model 17's have been tested for over over100,000 rds. with only minor problems.
