Relax, you will get the car back. Go to the law enforcement agency, show the car belongs to you and not your son. Most agencies will have in place a method for returning the car to you. You will pay for storage and towing. As a prosecutor, the case seldom is considered a part of the crime. Unless he was carrying 50 kilos of pot in a rigged gas tank.
1. Talk to the police
2. Talk to your son's public defender about getting the car released back to you
3. Talk to the District Attorney's office.
It is not as dire as most of these replies make it seem.

This depends on a number of factors.
Was the car impounded for safekeeping, because you son was arrested? If so you should be able to go to the PD, prove ownership, pay the fees and collect the car.
Was the car held as evidence? If so it'll be a long time before you have the opportunity to get it back.
The above is based on my jurisdiction's policies and might be different where you're from.

That can be tough.
If the prosecutor is going to allege the car was used to transport illegal drugs, it is now evidence and you won't get it back until after the trial. In some cases, the vehicle might be seized simply because it was used in a criminal act.
You need to talk to the prosecutor and find out what the status of your car is. You will need to convince him that you do not routinely lend your car to your son, that you did not know about his drug habit, and that you certainly did not know that he had any drugs on him when he borrowed your car.
Good luck.
